As I mentioned a couple of months ago in this thread racing.com will be showing 5 greyhound meetings before Xmas. Last night was the first of those 5

Another greyhound event tonight

The Sportsbet Melbourne Cup meeting will take place at Melbourne’s Sandown Park.

It has been mentioned that the VIC greys and harness codes were looking at ways to jump onto Racing VIC’s media bandwagon and reduce their reliance on Sky (and, between the lines, thus be more free to take other bookies’ money of course) - so expect more of this in future on ch78 I suspect, at least with the big races and carnivals.

As has been mentioned, three more weeks of GRV content on Sat night. Dunno if in-house, RV produced or SEN produced (who’d done GRV’s shows on 7two in-house) or even the bookie doing it. Besides being in the bookie’s colours, the in-house graphics were a weird melange of Racing.com’s and 7’s mainline horse coverage.

Was this Sandown race meet a Racing.com exclusive? Because I coulded see it on Sky 1&2 in the EPG?

Sky 1 would still take the races as per normal, as per the usual contract.

Previously, extended coverage would either be on Sky 2, or these days more likely be placed on the Sky Racing Active app (limited to Tabcorp account holders).

I believe the only race Sky can’t take live is the horse racing Melbourne Cup, due to anti-siphoning and the exclusive FTA deal with (currently) 10. They can take the rest of the Flemington carnival as long as they credit the FTA holder, as the VRC deal is pretty much separate to everything else.

This is what I thought But I’ve got no idea what happened with this. unless the EPG is wrong.

SEN produced coverage.

Unless it was different this year, Sky has shown the Melbourne Cup live previously - they take the FTA-produced coverage.

I didn’t see it this year, and maybe the deal with Ten has allowed Sky to take it too (possibly the TAB sponsoring the carnival and Ten’s coverage helped or was a by-product of this). They definitely didn’t two or three years ago (last I’d checked) when Seven held the rights. The option for that would fall to the FTA rights-holder in any case, I’d imagine.

That’s what I thought, given the even closer ties they’d been talking about with GRV in recent months. Thanks.

Sky Racing had the Melbourne Cup live this year and last year. Not sure about before that. This year they even had a correspondent on-site.

Racing .com has gone HD on Foxtel and become available to Foxtel IP customers and Kayo (OK, it may have already been on Kayo, I don’t know)

I can see it in my Foxtel Go account. Haven’t checked the IQ5 box at home yet. It always irked me that the IQ5 FTA tuner refused to recognise the FTA version, especially recently as the programming differences (lack of Hong Kong racing on RDC via Foxtel) went away.

Is it currently MPEG2 SD on FTA? If so, good time to move to MPEG4 HD?

Racing is MPEG 4 SD on FTA

Ah ok then. Perhaps the SD feed might looks a little bit better if its being downscaled from a HD source?

I think they already had a hd feed but only as a online stream.

Yeah now it’s available on Kayo/Foxtel.

Didn’t know there was a difference between both FTA and sub versions. Interesting
