Proposed bus route arrangements for the 18 month shutdown of the Armadale Line.
I notice a replacement bus route will go to High Wycombe for passengers to transfer to the new Airport line. Wonât it defeat the purpose of the railway line which is for airport travellers and workers?
Thatâs not the sole purpose of the line.
Iâll say itâs to improve connectivity between the Forrestfield/Kalamunda and Kenwick/Maddington areas once the Airport Line becomes operational. The 294, introduced in 1989 as part of the Beeline network, is currently only regular bus route to run between Forrestfield and Cannington (Armadale Line station), operates every hour on weekdays and bi-hourly on Saturday.
There will be also changes to bus services in the Forrestfield/Kalamunda area once the rail line becomes operational. More info: Have your say on the new Airport Line bus network | My Say Transport
Those are some dreadful frequencies. A twice a day bus? 30-60 minute interpeak services? Services that donât run on Sunday? Thatâs regional town level.
Thereâs two usable services in those entire documents the âSuperBusâ. Everything else canât compete with driving.
You donât improve low usage with low frequency.
[Perth]
First C-series railcar rolled out of the facility and into important diagnostic testing.
Not only this, but Iâd like to see the line extended down through Murwillumbah, Mullumbimby, Ballina and Lismore and link up with the existing North Coast line at Casino.
That will mark the return of the Casino-Murwillumbah railway line which closed in 2004.
However, construction of the new railway will be difficult given it passes through a region which is prone to flooding (Lismore and Ballina were heavily affected by floods last month and this month).
The original train line that went all the way to Coolangatta should never have been removed in the first place
The light rail makes far more sense to be the airport link - the train line is just too focused, probably rightly, on being commuter rail to Brisbane - it really doesnât work well for actually getting around Gold Coast, hence the light rail projects in the first place.
While it might be a little bit slower, itâd be far more likely to get someone to where they want to be if they are actually visiting the Gold Coast and not just using it as a second Brisbane airport. A bus shuttle to the existing train line is fine. If they want to extend the line they probably should, but focus on service for residents not the airport.
Ideally it should be both - and I believe that is or at least was the ultimate plan.
Sadly the same can be said about many old rail/tram lines
We should have kept the trams in Brisbane.I was very young when they were retired so I donât remember them.
Last time I was down in Melbourne I went for a few tram ridesđ
I also travelled on the tram to Glenelg last time I visited Adelaide
I can only imagine how different a city Sydney might have been if all itâs tram lines werenât ripped out ![]()
The trams do give Melbourne a unique feel and works well for them, not sure that it would suit Sydney as much, and as all of that overhead wiring is a bit ugly and would spoil todayâs streetscapes a bit given Sydney is generally seen as a pretty city. The newer light rail Sydney has doesnât have as much overhead cabling.
Expected operational date of the Forrestfield-Airport Link (Airport Line) is June 30th as mentioned in this segment of Flashpoint.
It will be interesting to see which Perth station platform the Airport Line trains will depart from. The most likely is platform 3 which is used for Bunbury line trains twice per day.
Platform 3 isnât electrified, so thatâs not going to happen.
It will likely share platforms with the Fremantle Line, since all Airport Line services continue to Claremont Station.
So platforms 7 to 9 at Perth station? (Platform 7 to Fremantle, platform 8 and 9 to Midland and Airport?)
Almost definitely so.
Platform Configuration at Perth Station might need to be adjusted when a 3rd line is operational between Perth and Bayswater (Morley-Ellenbrook Line) in a few years time, but frequency wonât be an issue with just the Midland & Airport Line services.
