Some Brisbane City Council buses are decorated for Xmas too, most years they are
Wonder why it took the Thunder longer to secure that - I’m sure I havent paid for PT to Sixers games for ages
I’m thinking Cricket NSW may have gotten a deal with TfNSW for transport to Olympic Park for those four games. Might also be a ploy for Sydneu Olympic Park to get people to do more before and after the game.
SCG might come under a separate deal with either CNSW and/or CA that involves any international games aa well, or it’s a deal with SCG Trust for any event at the SCG or Allianz Stadium, which would explain why Swans and Waratahs games were/are covered. Not sure about the Rorters or $ydney FC, but who cares about them. ![]()
Gotta remember that it’s not TfNSW paying for it out of the kindness of their heart, it’s the event organisers or the venue IIRC. We are talking about NSW Government run operations, we’re not that generous or well run.
Meanwhile Brisbane Heat with free buses and trains for ticket holders and extra train services for matches!
pretty much all events at the Gabba and Suncorp include free public transport (technically it’s not free - every ticket holder pays an additional $2 levy to fund it) on BCC busses and trains (no AirTrain though)
this is actually a great way to increase PT use to events and when i travel to events interstate it is something that sticks out as a positive of the Brisbane system
I’m told it’s heavily incentivised and may be part of sponsorship deals the teams do with TfNSW (TfNSW/Towards Zero sponsors both BBL teams)
That does make sense. They actually sponsor Cricket NSW as a whole, so the deal might involve the state team and the W/BBL teams.
Yep, same on the Gold Coast for games there too where all Surfside (or now Kinetic) buses are free for events at Carrara (and possibly Robina, but I’ve never been to a game there) . I think QR trains might be free too?
yeah its QR trains (except the airport line), the G:link tram, and busses. does not include BCC ferries or other bus rpoviders than Kinetic (for gold coast events) or BCC
I’m hoping they actually put on more direct trains out west (since the Thunder is effectively Western Sydney) from Olympic Park on game nights - especially on the Richmond and Penrith lines. Waddling up and down Lidcombe stairs is a pain in the arse.
The High Court has overturned a lower court’s decision to deny Sydney CBD business owners millions of dollars in compensation over the light rail delays.
The decision has cleared the way for traders to now seek compensation over the problem-plagued project.
With the current temporary timetable in place for the Werribee line due to level crossing removal works in Newport and Altona, that means for three weeks in January, passengers in most of Melbourne’s west plus Geelong and Warrnambool lines will be affected by trackwork.
Housing Industry Association Victoria today warned the proposed value capture mechanisms would instead compound the state’s housing affordability issues.
You get what you pay for.
Houses need to be in places with the amenities to support them - the SRL adds huge value to houses in the areas, as you open up a whole lot of new places to live and work while still being close to shops and services.
Years ago I moved to be walking distance from a train station instead of needing to take a bus first - cutting my commute time was absolutely worth it being more expensive to live. Not everyone has that luxury - but those who do can choose to live in these new developments, and they then free up their existing housing for others.
You would absolutely get $30k of value from living next to a line that links you to being 1 transfer from half the city, not to mention the value of just being able to get home sooner.
Transport Victoria quietly posted the 2026 public transport fares on its website on Friday. The cost of a two-hour, zone 1+2 fare will increase to $5.70.
The increase will add 40 cents to the full daily fare for Zone 1, Zone 1+2 metropolitan fares, and the regional fare cap.

Hastings station on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, which was burnt down one year ago, reopened today with a new structure. The rebuilding took place during the 10-day shutdown of the Stony Point line.
Local MP (and former DWTS judge) Paul Mercurio posted these photos on his FB page.
Station is a very strong word for that structure. I’ve seen more elaborate bus stops ![]()
And yes, still odd to see Scott from Strictly Ballroom as a state MP, but times change I guess.
Surely knocked up in under a week for a few thousand dollars if they were serious.
