I mean NPS was an American show that just happened to be made in Australia…
ehh, it was an American show.
The original novel was an Australian story set in Australia with Australian characters. They decided to make the series American.
The mini-series based on the best-selling novel by Liane Moriarty, follows nine troubled individuals as they visit wellness retreat Tranquillum House run by the captivating and slightly terrifying Masha, and discover not everything is as it seems.
Whilst the novel is set in Australia, the series takes place in the US state of California but though it was originally meant to be filmed stateside, Nine Perfect Strangers ended up being shot right here in Australia.
It was made as an American show but Nine Perfect Strangers was originally an Australian novel about Australian characters. Most people who read the novel were extremely disappointed with the series.
The same goes for Big Little Lies. The difference with that adaptation is that it was well done. There was a good translation from the Northern Beaches of Sydney to the beaches north of Los Angeles.
So shame on Australian producers and studios for not adapting the books to screen and allowing American studios to buy up the rights to Australian stories.
That too.
I think Nine Perfect Strangers would have worked better in its Australian wellness centre setting. If you wanted to make it more International, you could have had some of the characters be American and British but also had Australian characters. Plus you had the Russian main character who remained that way in the series. Even that would have worked better.
Didn’t they already come out and saythis was it? Or have they suddenly backflipped to undecided
I’ve watched the first three episodes and I’m finding it difficult to like it. It has a good underlying storyline but I feel like they ruined the show with one of the two lead actresses. They really went over the top with character and portrayal of Eddie Redcliffe, who is supposedly a detective brought to Tasmania from Darwin.
I understand that she’s supposed to be crass and obnoxious but having her constantly be so loud, vulgar and incompetent is extreme and just makes her look like a cartoon character. By the time she shows dome vulnerability, it’s too late to feel any empathy for her. They just went too hard and too far with her.
I haven’t finished watch the whole thing yet but that character really ruined the whole thing for me.
Prime is pushing you ads next year - Not really surprised by this to be honest.
Yuck!
Prime Video exists just to keep people shopping on Amazon
