Not that I can see, theres not much on the FM band here apart from ABC News Radio, RN, ABC Classic, Hot Country/4HI, SEN and Hit FM.

I’ll send you a PM of the person who was the driver behind the station several decades ago.

I think I’ve worked it out, the mobile number listed seems to point on google to a sponsor who runs a real estate business. I guess he runs it, I’ve heard his ad play about 50 times today.

Has anyone considered calling the number in the post above and just asking?

There’s a Dec 2022 Google Streetview (GSV) image of the 4 dipole vertical pol collinear array antenna & pole still showing in rear backyard corner, that’s been there since GSV imagery of 2008 at previous lic. address.

4EEE were licenced for 400W V a couple of decades ago.
I think appearances of 4EEE disappeared from ACMA online licence records somewhere around circa year 2010.

@Dj_Cazzah is there any station signage outside the above address? Antenna still there?

I just went for a walk past the building, it seems to belong to Actioneers, Serveyors and building companies. Theres nothing there that suggests it’s a radio station apart from the folded dipoles out the back.

Is that free standing, not guyed?

That’s surprisingly high for safely self supporting 4 dipoles on a slim pole extension.

Either its unlicensed or maybe they have requested to have theie licence removed from the ACMA database?

Or the ACMA databases (available to us) are not correct… it wouldn’t be the first time their listings were wrong.

That’s interesting.
So can a broadcaster request to have their licence details removed from the public accessible ACMA Rad Com Online database? I had no idea that this was an option.

Another thing is; Emerald is a common area for SpE reception here in Sydney.
I have not heard 4EEE for a very long time during numerous sufficient strength Es reception events, which leads me to suspect that it hasn’t been on air for a long time.
Happy to be corrected on this, but I can’t recall any dxer logs of this station either for a long while.
I suspect a recent reactivation, but this is pure speculation.

That’s what I thought too @AJ1 . Probably only take a 100km+ wind gust to bend the metal pole extension that the dipoles are attached too

I’ll give my own personal reason to hate pirate stations.

Years ago, I was flying into Miami in Florida in the States. We came in over the Glades and were approaching the airport from the west. We were not far from the outer marker.

The plane suddenly goes into full ascent power and turns hard to the south towards Kendall and Homestead. We loop out over the Glades again.

The pilot comes on and says: “we just emergency aborted the landing because a pirate FM station was jamming our communication with the tower. This happens occasionally in Miami, and we have a procedure for it. We changed radio channels and will come around and land safely in a moment”.

We did land safely. I almost missed my connect flight. I hate pirates. And other thieves and vandals.

FM broadcast interference with aeronautical VHF has always been common: 3rd order intermods between radio stations can easily fall on the aeronautical band which is just above the FM band and aircraft AM radio’s make great wide band FM receivers due to their narrow IF bandwidth and slope detection. Add to that aircraft often operate at altitude and sometimes have a radio horizon of up to 200km and they commonly hear music where it shouldn’t be.

Pirates also don’t usually have bandpass filters on their outputs so 3rd order intermods are guaranteed to happen if there are other FM broadcasters nearby. Same goes for legitimate broadcasters who remove the output filter or change to a wideband port on a combiner - don’t be surprised if you get a visit from the ACMA

Goulburn’s Mt Gray fortunate it’s not close to any major airport. Years of intermods not addressed until the 2GN and RN shift to FM.

I went to Crookwell last week for lunch and came back via Range Road, which happens to have a full LOS to Mount Gray from a fair way outside Goulburn. IMD is still there on 95.1, just not as bad as it used to be, and it’s still primarily 93.5+ 94.3. Didn’t check the other frequencies; 107.9 was also bad for IMD at one time.
