The Melbourne Pirate station on 99.9 seems to still be around but no audio, just a very strong carrier around the CBD.
If you donāt mind me asking roughly what suburb did you see the sticker?
Near Burnley station.
Iāll bet Nova 100 would be complaining about the interference from the pirate station being so close to 100.3
Most modern receivers can handle it. You would likely need to be within 100 m of the low powered pirate tx for there to be real issues. Admittedly that could affect a significant number of people in a densely populated area like Melbourne.
On a related note, when Braidwood FM first commenced its (legal) test broadcasts, the next door butcher complained that he could only receive Braidwood FM and nothing else on the dial! I think it was due to our rough and ready setup at the time, though. That points to another issue with these pirates; they are fond of running cheap eBay transmitters which can spew garbage all over the dial.
99.9 FM Melbourne is back again playing rap music with lots of profanity. Heard very strong in St Kilda.
The Pirate station is now Rick Rolling me, literally.
99.9 pirate still around in Melb, super strong in Port Melbourne.
The amount youāve posted about it Iām starting to get a vibe that youāre somehow involved with it
Nah, Iām just a normal Melbournian and we donāt get pirates that often as Sydney apparently does so itās a bit of an interest for me here. Iāve also managed to do some direction finding and its most likely coming from Williamstown.
Have you reported the frequency to the ACMA yet?
I get the impression that sometimes overzealous pirates want to get word out about their broadcast, not realising when they come out on here that it is just like doing something illegal then going to the police and owning up to their ways. Just know they are many folks on here with views to the contrary, and will push vehemently for their course of conviction.
Thatās Whiz FM
Nearly every time I check the frequency recently itās been either off air or silent though. Iām not in the best place for FM reception, so maybe it is still on air and Iām just out of range, but I wouldnāt have thought mass advertising a pirate station is smart.
How quick will ACMA act?
Itās open season when mine sites stream out of area stations on self helps and commercials on HPONs.
Same here, I try turning the yagi towards the CBD and I can never get it from here. Iāve heard it a few times around the city but it disappears as soon as you pass the city.
Just wondering now with a more lefty leaning labor government, if a:) theyāre going to be more pirates appearing and b:) if ACMA and the government are still going to be as ruthless as before when shutting stations down? I noticed more publicity of people being cought out when Abbott and Turnbull took over the reigns from Gillard and Rudd.
