If my memory serves me right, Nickelodeon had this on-air package between 2006-2008.
I like to jokingly label this era as being Nickelodeon’s ‘edgy’ phase, because of the whole rock schtick (e.g The Veronicas appearing in the ident and making the 'rock ‘n roll salute’) and the increased emphasis of black aesthetics. 
I personally have the theory that emo had a strong influence on the overall presentation of the network (especially considering how popular it was around the same time), but i’m only speculating.
