Paralympic Games (General Thread)

Spain’s Yassine Ouhdadi El Ataby has been banned for three years and had his Paris gold medal stripped from him because he failed a performance-enhancing drug test. Ouhdadi won the T13 5000m final, in which Australia’s Jaryd Clifford and his guide runner, Matt Clarke, initially crossed the finish line in third place, before they were disqualified, because they were not both holding the tether, a small piece of rope, as they crossed the finish line.

I don’t know why they can’t keep the set-up at the SoFi stadium for the Paralympics - if it’s got to do with the opening ceremony for the Paralympics being held there, then surely they could either switch it with the Memorial Coliseum (SoFi could host closing ceremony instead), or just have both ceremonies at the Coliseum.

I’d dare say a certain bionic, moronic orange individual hasn’t extended the funding that far? :man_shrugging:

Apparently the official reason is for NFL, however, there are still plenty of other venues nearby that have all hosted NFL before.

Tudhope is competing at his fourth Winter Paralympics. His bronze in para snowboard was Australia’s only medal at the 2022 Beijing Games.

The 26-year-old is the first Australian winter Paralympian or Olympian to win 50 World Cup medals.

Gunew will be making her Paralympic debut in para alpine skiing and will have Ethan Jackson as her guide.

The honour comes eight years after Gunew was forced to give up hockey because of her diminishing vision.
