June 4 of 1997: New Live-Action Children’s Program Magic Mountain premieres on ABC for the first time at 4:30 PM Local Time. The program went on to last for two seasons until November of 1998 with Re-runs then continuing until February of 2004.

5 June 1995: The premiere of Network Ten soap Echo Point, slotted to run back-to-back with Neighbours and in competition with Home And Away. Poor ratings led to the series moving to 6.00pm then to a late night timeslot for its final episodes. The final episode of ABC’s comedy series Funky Squad, a parody of 1970s cop dramas.

I seem to recall that show also had that Shirley Purvis as well (aka Angela Moore).

Ten had some shockers of weekend kids shows back then. Including Mind Twist with Maynard F# Crabbes.

Recently heard a podcast about a interstate series from 1988. Basically the bent the rules so that anybody who was signed to the Sydney Swans could play for New South Wales

9:30am. PM would be too late. It was a morning show before it evolved into a primetime show starting 7 hours later than usual which was a hit and became a staple on Nine

it was PM.

When it first moved from Saturday morning (8am) to night, in February 1984, it ran from 9.30PM to midnight. It moved to 6.30pm in 1985 initially to accommodate evening cricket coverage from the UK but ended up becoming a permanent timeslot.

9 June 1992: In A Country Practice (Seven), Frank Gilroy (Brian Wenzel) receives news that his wife Shirley (Lorrae Desmond) has died in a plane crash. The storyline marked Desmond’s departure from the series after more than ten years.

10 June 1962: The Melbourne premiere of historical drama, The Patriots on ABV2. The ten-episode series featured a cast of 26 actors, including Allan Trevor (as New South Wales Governor Darling), James Condon, Beverley Philiips, Nigel Lovell, Ruth Cracknell, Alastair Duncan, John Alden and Ken Goodlet. The series made its Sydney debut two weeks earlier.

Because He’s My Friend starred US actors Karen Black and Keir Dullea with Australians Jack Thompson, Tom Oliver, June Salter, Barbara Stephens, Tony Wager, Michael Long and 12-year-old Warwick Poulsen, who won a TV Week Logie Award the following year for his portrayal of an intellectually disabled child.
