Seven’s main channel is broadcasting in HD…but only in Melbourne and Adelaide. Other markets get 7mate HD due to AFL coverage.
Personally, I think that the two tier system for HD (which annoys me like you won’t believe, especially since Seven’s SD channel has pretty average picture quality and the fact that the LCN name here is “7HD Sydney” rather than “7mateHD Sydney”!) will most likely continue during the Olympics. Either that or Seven switching LCN-70 in Sydney/Brisbane/Perth to Seven’s main channel for the duration of the Olympics before going back to 7mate HD.

Any news on which channels/times the Paralympics will be broadcast?

I hear the Paralympics will be on 7TWO only as 7mate may be used to show the AFL finals in HD in some states.
Saw a Telstra ad tonight promoting the telco as technology partner of Seven’s coverage. Optus may be a partner of the Australian Olympic Team but Seven prefers Telstra to carry the sights and sounds to homes and mobiles because of established technology and extensive (but accident prone) network.

No surprise there. 
Seven has revealed the opening ceremony will be shown live on Saturday, August 6 from 6am AEST. It is mentioned at the end of a promo clip shown tonight, featuring Australian field hockey veteran Jamie Dwyer.
However, as the ceremony itself actually starts at 8pm Rio time (9am AEST), Seven’s coverage may actually include Olympic Sunrise and a short preview show.
Rachael Finch has announced she will not travel to Brazil due to the Zika virus. She was named as one of four roving reporters for Seven’s coverage.

That would be about as many as NBC are sending, many of their voice talents will be remaining in the US.
NBC will delay the Opening Ceremony by an hour starting at 7PM in all time zones across America.
Actual Opening Ceremony begins at 8PM Rio time which is 9:00AM Sydney time
So the Olympic games will be in SD on the main channel ?

I meant will there be a 7HD switched on… obviously not.
Are they not simulcasting the main channel on 7Mate in regions without HD.
I know here in Melbourne 7 is already available in HD.
The HD channel in QLD is a simulcast of 7mate, as opposed to being of the main 7 channel as it should be.
Nobody knows yet, but probably not.
In Qld only Brisbane has a 7HD that currently show 7Mate programs. There is no 7HD in the Qld regional areas covered by O&O 7QLD. Also no HD for 7Prime areas.

I wouldn’t be surprised for 7HD in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth to switch to a simulcast of the main channel for the 2 weeks of the Olympics. There will be plenty of complaints if that doesn’t happen.
