Virtually no chance NRL goes to the dregs network.
How many times can you analyse over and over again though? There’s a balance between build-up and overkill.

Surely even the biggest Nine Network fans can agree that after 30 years, the NRL would benefit from/actually needs a new FTA broadcaster? That’s not to say I disagree there’s very little chance of rugby league returning to Ten after more than three decades.

Yep, I agree. If it wasn’t for the lower grade finals/Grand Finals, I’d personally prefer Nine to just start the coverage from 6.30pm/7pm like they do with State Of Origin.

Absolutely - fresh ideas are always good. The NRL would be highly unlikely to go to a network like 10, however. It’ll take a cycle of strong A-League coverage and other acquisitions for them to be taken seriously.

it will bring back some credibility to the network. It didn’t stop Cricket Australia from them airing BBL, or even the IOC for the Sochi Winter Olympics. They should be given a go regardless of their network status.
All it really takes is $$$$$ … and lots of it.

Both are a bit different - Cricket Australia wanted FTA exposure for BBL, and 10 did an exceptional job growing it. But CA didn’t have the confidence in 10 for them to take their entire product (with Nine).
IOC are a bit different - they go to the highest bidder and don’t really care for market reputation. It was also 7 years ago.

Yes and no. An overseas sports league that runs its auctions for the Aussie market via tender/auction, agreed. If you are having to work with a network intimately, you’re probably wanting more of a say. All the things like cuts to the news division etc etc mount up in terms of image.
Exactly. In selecting a rights holder to the sport, I think the NRL (and AFL for that matter) would take things into consideration such as the considerably beefier news coverage of Seven/Nine compared to Ten which barely have a news/current affairs department anymore.
People have missed my point. This is a complaint I’ve had for years about the GF coverage. It’s drab and boring. There’s no build up, there’s no event feel. This isn’t a covid complaint. It’s terrible coverage. There’s no team effort. There’s no multiple crosses to various places and people. There’s no features.
Go and have a look at the AFL coverage 10 use to do for GF day.
Nine are phoning it in. There’s no big event feel.
I enjoy 9’s coverage each year. I very much prefer having 3 games (including some lower grade games) instead of hours and hours of talking heads and packages.
Commentator just mentioned next week’s Queensland Cup Grand Final schedule:
Live on Nine in Brisbane
Live on Nine Now
Nothing mentioned about other cities.
The GF is only on QTQ. Not shown on any main of multichannel in any other market.
2:30pm INTRUST SUPER CUP
Grand Final. Wide World Of Sports presents the Grand Final of the Intrust Super Cup live from Moreton Daily Stadium. Kick-off at 3:10PM.
I think it was implied that the QRL Grand Final on Nine Now would be national (though Psaltis only mentioned NSW for Nine Now). As I thought they only geoblocked the free to air channel streams?
I thought 9Gem in NSW could have been an option being a league state.
Moreton Daily Stadium
I do wonder why Redcliffe? Cheaper than Suncorp?

Yet they expect Melbourne and Adelaide viewers to tune into the Qld Cup Prelims just because it’s Grand Final Day?
In a non COVID world, it would have been the Jersey Flegg (U21) Grand Final, then Intrust Super Cup Grand Final (QLD vs NSW winners) and be in Sydney. That’s just the way it panned out this year.
But kudos to Nine for putting almost the entire NSW/QLD GF Day on the main channel down south.
Tonight’s game will be more electric with two teams playing to win the trophy
Isn’t that the point of sport, team vs team? You’d want two teams otherwise they would just be standing around?
