There’s more ad slots in AFL, and doesn’t the AFL deal give 7 about 3.5 games per round - so more than 9?
AFL games are longer and provide more opportunities to screen a 30 second commercial.
Seven didn’t have the ability to challenge Nine’s bid.
Ten is viewed as a liability.
Nine probably benefits during these deals because they have a stake in the print media. Ten doesn’t.
In markets outside of Victoria. They get an extra game if falls on a Saturday

General scan of social media is that subscription for Kayo is getting too expensive and many reconsidering renewing subscriptions. Delaney won’t care. He’ll keep rising the costs and DAZN might not like where it ends up with this deal. Overall negative vibe on socials for all of this. But take that with a grain of salt as it is always skewed by a vocal few.
My point was about exclusive games which aren’t simulcast on Fox. Seven only has the AFL GF and Brownlow Medal whereas Nine not only get the NRL GF but six State of Origin matches each year.

There’s only so much you can ignore before the higher ups start to look at why people are switching off and possibly going to other, probably illegal, methods of viewing said content. Any increase in subscription fees without a reasonable justification made by DAZN/Foxtel and/or improvement in service will piss people off.
Punters just can’t keep paying for every single subscription service. Anyone who thinks they can are idiots that would make my ophthalmologist and employer look like a Rhodes scholar by comparison.

I just think the leagues are trading a short term financial boost for something that will become a long term drag on the growth of the game, and eventually drag down how valuable it is going forward.
3/10 games a week being accessible, so far nothing said about special treatment for the Bears to try and grow the game in WA, likely Sky will not include any Warriors games among the scraps Three will get.
The AFL deal is better structured in terms of the balance of growth of the sport in expansion markets, the comparative prominence of the game on free platforms, and isn’t banking on rapid expansion to try and add content.
They don’t really have a choice with Stan Sport as their play - you need extensive compelling content to a wide pool of potential subscribers. They will be well placed to pick up some more events that are squeezed out of Foxtel for them to pay for the NRL deal.

Warriors games have been live on pay in NZ for their entire existence.
And have always had a FTA element (very very rarely live, sometimes live-to-delayed, but mostly delayed). The NZ market is completely different.

The AFR has confirmed two other aspects of the new agreement:
Foxtel will no longer be required to air Nine’s ads during simulcast games and Nine will lose simulcast rights to the last five rounds on Saturday nights.

This is a little confusing? Foxtel already doesn’t show ads when Nine does during play in the simulcast games.

Pre, half and post game. They air ads of 9 commercial sponsors.
Same with AFL with 7 network.

Some are like Coles for AFL but Disney Plus is definitely not.
