Nine Tennis Coverage

Look, they’re incredibly similar obviously! Willing to forgive her :joy:

I realise they’ve gone with the night centre court World No. 1 match, which was a feature for today and promoted in Aryna Sabalenka. While they’ve moved the Aussie Jason Kubler and Tiafoe match to 9Gem.

But a shame they couldn’t put the 3hr 5 set comeback epic with the two Americans including Seb Korda (son of 1998 AO champ Petr) on broadcast, instead accessible on 9Now or Stan. It was on Nine earlier today though, briefly.

Tiafoe/Kubler being moved is partly to aid 9Gem because next match on its card (Danilovic/Williams) would follow this one in the JCA.

Very long night ahead for the multichannel.

You can choose which courts you want to watch the tennis on 9Now, so you don’t need to put up with Tony Jones, Sam McClure talking.

This is Day 3. Nine will definitely have Sinner but probably would hope for an early finish there to head to Inglis/Birrell.

Otherwise its day session once again packed with Aussies.

Some good Sunday late matches on at the moment, Nine will be pleased, been pushing them on-air too with those ‘megawalls’:

Alcaraz v Walton on 9, Williams v Danilović on Gem and a 3 and a half hour 5 setter between Frenchman Bonzi and seeded player Brit Cam Norrie on 9Now, to name a few.

Some of the stats on nearly 46 y/o Venus are incredible, nearly 90 WTA players weren’t even born yet when she played at her first AO and she made two AO finals but lost both to guess who, sis Serena and 14 years apart!

Never understood the criticism Smith cops from some. Always thought she is a very good, highly experienced commentator, both special comments and play-by-play and knows her craft well, of course a former player herself. Like how Nine occasionally let her call a men’s match as well. Sam was good at Seven alongside Sandy and Todd too and I found her far better than the likes of Pam Shriver, Elizabeth Smylie, Kerryn Pratt, Tracy Austin, Nicole Bradtke and Rennae Stubbs.

I’ve not heard that before. I look forward to hearing her commentary every year.

Where does the criticism come from?

I see it online from time to time

RLA is the last court remaining and it’s on the main channel.

Somewhat unexpected.

I thought the protocol is to just switch to Perth schedule (or air the next program early) as soon as feasible?

Well, hope no days from here on out concludes at 10.30pm or earlier AEDT.

Also, it’s quite interesting they don’t align on this graphic as to what the exact positioning is.

Day 2

9Gem

3-way split screen. Not seen this before.

9Gem, as you can see, takes Gauff. Sensible option knowing Borges and FAA will still do battle after.

Good result for Australia on Nine. Gem forgetting what it was supposed to show (which is now a 4-setter).

Now Gauff is simulcast on both feeds. Who’s making these decisions?

I wonder why Nine keeps doing this when they’re other matches they could show on 9Gem. I don’t recall Seven ever doing this on 7TWO when they had the tennis.

Felix Auger-Aliassime retired in the match 9Gem was supposed to be covering near the start of set 4. So it was the right call to ignore.

Medvedev match was filler until Thompson began playing at 1573.

You can see every match on 9Now and Stan Sport.

And if you don’t remember that, we will put that three times on one split screen so that it sticks with you.
