Nine Tennis Coverage

Why is every logo in those images distorted

That’s how they are supplied.

Nick Kyrgios has bowed out of the Australian Open, in three sets. There was a commercial break. Nine are now showing the Novak Djokovic match (from the fourth set) after all.

I think this went the way most expected, even if not what many hoped, after a long time out of the game and minimal practice with questionable fitness. Still, he put on a show and there was chances to take a set and drama, crowd was on fire, the internet and socials lit up. Nine will hope they got something out of it too. His year will be intriguing to keep an eye on.

I agree. As much as we would have liked to see him go far into the Open, his length out of it was a lot. His injuries, sadly, didn’t help. The atmosphere was great though.

Nine are now hoping that Alex De Minaur would go “the distance”.

Nine, TA and fans will be pleased so many Australians have made it through though, there’s still another two in play at the moment and even more tomorrow which include two of our best in de Minaur & Popyrin.

Today had no guarantees for any of them really, could’ve been a very different story, so increases Australia’s chances deeper in the week and even next week now. Especially with the likes of Tsitsipas sent packing, particularly good news for the Demon.

Even Djokovic has been challenged tonight, hadn’t lost a first set in R1 at the Aussie Open in 20 years! Could still be more upsets not involving Australian players before Round 2 come Tuesday let alone this week. Had Kyrgios made it though tonight, would’ve just been IMO an extra cherry on top or sugar rush purely for hype, entertainment and audience boost.

Is this Sylvia first time hosting AO night session??

A couple of Nine placeholder graphics on 9Now world feeds, when matches aren’t in play but a court is still live streaming:

Not sure what this one is for, maybe not officially “closed” yet

Great hearing some of the old names still calling on the world feed, which Nine have used a bit. Such as Allan Stone (goes back close to 50 years), Liz Smylie, John Fitzgerald, Geoff Masters. I haven’t heard Garry Wilkinson yet this AO though.

edit

News Corp reporting Jim Courier may not be at Melbourne Park until “later in the tournament”, then saying “coming days”. Nine Newspapers said “the next couple of days”. Nine also “declined to comment”.

So we could see Courier as early as tomorrow or as late as next week. But hope he’s okay, health and family come first. News Corp says it’s not him or his residence(s) directly, but family/friends who are currently near the wildfires in LA.

I missed this notification yesterday - there was no v/o to accompany it. You would hope that viewers were already watching the tennis on 9HD!

A moment before SA viewers were told to switch to 9Go for tennis including by the commentary.

Thought it was odd Nine started showing Hijikata’s match on 9Gem following Medvedev’s marathon, even though 9Go! already had it. Maybe due to switch in 20min after news?

Is 9Now the last touchpoint for Nine to rid of 3D dotty? Stark contrast when the logo is flashed next to the 9Now there.

9Now should show the Wii sports stream of the Aus open that’s shown on the Aus open YouTube of some of the live matches.

Work of art.
If only 9 could overlay something like Wii Sports graphics & SFX we’d have peak tennis.
