That was this year

Hang on… didn’t he start in 2005? That’s what I can recall.

Or unless you meant something among the lines of “he has been on domestic television in Australia for 20 years now”.

As in 2025 will be Courier’s 21st Australian Open in a row, so he’d have already notched up “20 years” [of the AO - year it is in - not a literal calendar year]

Rating for the men’s final was the biggest for a tennis match then

With no disrespect to Marat Safin intended, I reckon it could’ve been larger had it been a Federer vs Hewitt final.

The pair only ever faced off in one Major final, Federer winning in straights at the 2004 US Open.

Haven’t seen the WWOS icon in a hot minute - my eyes are too used to the 2D 9 logo & the Olympic/Paralympic logo!

Hard to believe just over 20 years ago the Davis Cup was still at a pinnacle of Aussie sport, we were at the top and everybody would get obsessively around it, a true carnival like atmosphere, there was a time where it was arguably considered (at least to many of us) ahead of the Slams! Sad the directions it’s taken :frowning:

Can still remember the 2003 final, the flavour and colour, the hype, the victory, Seven’s telecast and Sandy Roberts, so good!

The Davis Cup is now below the Summer Olympics and United Cup

I’m still not sure what happened to Davies cup. Why do so many top players treat it as a lower-level tournament these days?
