That goes half the fans… Nine will be unhappy… not much Australians left this year

Wonder what Nine will show tomorrow:

Bencic v Tomova (on Margaret Court before de Minaur v Hsu)
Zidansek v Jabeur

Both matches start at 7pm.

They just confirmed they are showing de Minaur v Hsu

They may be, but this is what can happen.

A big blow to Nine’s telecast. Kokkinakis and De Menaur are still in and have a good chance of going deep this year.

Now that’s got me thinking - just an idea only but they could also hire Mathew Thompson (now their chief rugby league caller after Ray Warren’s retirement) for next year if he’s up for the challenge.

We saw him call another of Warren’s other events - swimming - last month.

True but it’s still not solely focused on Stan Sport like in previous years.

9Gem played Millman v Huesler in the break between matches on main courts.

Surprised they aren’t showing Keys v Blinkova tonight, expected to start at 9pm AEDT, one of the channels will be wrapping up coverage early tonight

Swiatek v Niemeier possibly delayed?

Promo in Brisbane

Why is Nick McArdle calling Court 3 (aussie John Millman going into a 5 set thriller) “Margaret Court Arena” and “MCA”? 9Gem feed.

Also like Dave Culbert calling tennis, he’s a talented sports broadcaster all-rounder, in a rare bunch. Recently covering Seven’s field events for Tokyo and also I think Beijing winter and Birmingham Comm Games. He’s with stalwart Geoff Masters, one of my favourite callers, also like Fitzy from 7Sport’s old team back to the early 90s IIRC.

Nine has switched to Millman v Huesler. Swiatek v Niemeier on now but they aren’t showing it. A bit poor on Nine’s end.

I guess. But he’d have a floor manager, director, producer and researcher/ pages of notes with him. Just doesn’t sound polished for a major.

No surprises there, always happens like this. On broadcast they favour the Aussies, biggest names and men. You’d probably get angry viewers if they didn’t have Millman (no offence to crowd favourite Tsitsipas) on Channel 9.

Nine need to pick what match they wanna show and leave it on. They’ve done it twice today. Bit annoying

The switching between the main channel and Gem is a bit much.

The first few days of the Australian Open is a bit tricky regarding what games to air here on Nine / 9Gem. It is a bit hard to please everyone. But would be nice if they aired a match in its entirety. And show “what else is on” between sets.

It was probably wrong to put Swiatek on 9Gem, considering they’d already started with Tsitsipas on main channel which was taken off for Millman which was on 9Gem (understandably they thought that will drive up audiences being a local going down to the wire). But now Tsitsipas / Greek fans are lighting up social media not too pleased.
