However, on Friday and Saturday nights, AFL states will have their usual NRL and Super Rugby Pacific telecast before moving to the tennis.

Surprised to see Sam Groth still contributing despite the federal election coming up as well

State election is not till November.

Just like John Alexander a few years ago, hopefully he wins so we don’t have to hear any of his terrible commentary.

Their schedule also doesn’t allow for the night session match which would start from 4.30am which they did show last year. Maybe making that on exclusive to Stan…

The second Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year is here with the 126th edition of Roland Garros in Paris, starting this Sunday live and free on 9Gem.

Our exclusive coverage commences at 6.30pm on 9Gem each night of the tournament.

Plus, all the action will be available to stream ad-free, live and on-demand on Stan Sport, with select matches in stunning 4K.

Calling the action on Channel 9 and 9Gem will be Roz Kelly , Todd Woodbridge , Sam Groth , Jelena Dokic and tennis expert Brett Phillips .

The red clay courts of Roland Garros will host the sport’s finest players. World No. 1 and defending champion, Novak Djokovic , is out to match 2022 Australian Open winner Rafael Nadal on 21 career Grand Slam wins and stop the Spaniard from claiming his 14th French Open title.

However, the men’s competition has rarely been hotter, with players like teen sensation and current world No. 6, 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz , primed for his first Grand Slam victory. Alcaraz is in top form after beating both Djokovic and Nadal to win the recent Madrid Open.

New women’s world No.1 Iga Świątek , 20, from Poland, is chasing her second win at Roland Garros after winning in 2020.

The Australian men’s contingent is headed by Alex de Minaur who is ranked 22 in the world. Viewers will also be eagerly following our highest ranked female, Ajla Tomljanović , who made the quarter-finals at Wimbledon last year.

It all begins on Sunday, May 22, at 6.30pm on 9Gem.

Bit crappy I have to go to betting sites for qualifying matches but yeah looking forward to it.

No coverage on Nine?

Not part of the deal I think.

Nope. Whilst the Night Session from Roland Garros sounds as if it will be exclusively on Stan Sport, I do hope when it comes US Open time that Nine will show the Night Session matches on free to air.

You would think so since it’s on at a decent time of the morning.

4K coverage of selected French Open matches on Stan Sport is a first. I wonder if Wimbledon and US Open will also have matches broadcast in 4K?

If they are provided, then they will.

Promo - no mention of 9Gem

doubt they use Nine’s main channel for US open night matches, they don’t want to disrupt Today Extra (a moneymaker for the network with their live infomercials) and their daytime lineup! This was a bugbear in the 90s when they were the exclusive broadcaster, they did not show any night matches with the exception of if an Australian player such as Pat Rafter or Lleyton Hewitt was involved in the 2nd week of the tournament. In those days (pre-Fox Sports) sports bars used to have satellite feeds from overseas networks to show US sports in Australia.
