Any mention at the end of the broadcast that Nine had renewed at all? I’m guessing not.
A lot of criticism of Andrew Castle’s commentary on Twitter which has made its way into the news. Castle saying that it was understandable and sympathising with Djokovic when he smashed his racquet into the net post was a particular source of criticism
Lol, no one can say anything anymore.
Looks like the usual coverage on 9GEM going by the guides
US Open tennis on Nine
It’s the last hurrah for a Grand Slam tennis title in 2023 when the US Open begins LIVE and FREE on 9GemHD and 9Now on Tuesday, August 29.
Nine’s exclusive broadcast will run for 14 days straight with coverage across 9GemHD and 9Now from the hard courts of Flushing Meadows, New York.
In the men’s singles, Aussie Alex de Minaur (world No.13) is up against the current top five of Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud and Holger Rune plus Greek hero Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The women’s singles title is wide open in a field featuring world No.1 Iga Świątek, Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka, Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova and top 10-ranked American big names Coco Gauff and Jess Pegula. Australia’s Alja Tomljanovic will join the mix to boost herself up the rankings after injury.
A strong Australian contingent will join de Minaur and Tomljanovic in the main draw when Thanasi Kokkinakis, Jordan Thompson, Jason Kubler, Daria Saville, Max Purcell, Alexei Popyrin, Chris O’Connell and Aleksander Vukic line up along with wildcards Storm Hunter and Rinky Hijikata.
Todd Woodbridge, Jelena Dokic, Brenton Speed and Brett Phillips will provide expert commentary for Nine’s Wide World of Sports on 9GemHD and 9Now for each day of play.
Every match will be available to stream live and ad-free only on Stan Sport with Centre court in 4K UHD. Stan Sport is also the only place you can catch all the action with replays, mini-matches and highlights available on demand. Plus Grand Slam Daily with Chris Stubbs and Wally Masur.

Could of moved that 9go portion to main channels really…
Today’s coverage (of Day 5) finished at approx 3.45pm aest, as the Djokovic Djere match went into five sets. It was supposed to finish at 2.30pm.
I’ve been enjoying the coverage of the tournament on 9Gem overall
It’s good to see all Grand Slams on Nine in the past two years. When 9 last aired the US open they only had coverage from the quarters onwards
hang on… from what I can recall, in the noughties Nine only aired the day session up until 6:00am (4:00pm New York time) in the first week, and, if I remember correctly, only did the night session if (for example) Lleyton Hewitt was playing. Other than that, I don’t know how much else Nine covered of the tournament, though I do know they would’ve aired the quarters onwards.
In recent years, when SBS picked up the rights to the tournament, it was only the quarters onwards, and I think it was only live on the east coast.
Didn’t SBS have FTA rights from round 1?
Nope.
Also, their coverage was a direct telecast from ESPN (i.e. no dedicated studio hosts like Nine currently has). Same goes with Roland Garros (direct world feed telecast), when they started broadcasting from 10:30pm local time, which means, in some cases, mid-match.
Nine showed from Day 1 up till 2004 (even then it was 1am to 6am) and then only had from the quarters onwards from 2005 to 2009 where i think with the last couple of men’s finals were shown delayed because of the today show. I remember one of those dealyed telecasts, they lost a bunch of match due to ‘technical difficulties’.
They showed Sam Stosur’s final in 2011 but most of the 2010’s decade was on Foxtel/ESPN exclusively before SBS got those FTA quarter finals onwards rights (2018?)
