Or putting a sport like golf when there is better things to present like the Olympics did? ![]()
Good to see 9 putting an effort to air the Paralympics
I also think Seven did a good effort in covering the 2016 and 2020 Paralympics too, though with a smaller number of sports and a shorter program, IMO it makes sense for Nine to use a linear schedule, switching to 9 or 9Gem where appropriate.
IIRC, when the ABC and SBS covered the event/s prior to 2016, coverage was only restricted to only a few hours, or in the worst case, one hour highlights. I remember the 2008 Beijing Paralympics being mostly exclusive to ABC2 (which meant no one could watch it if they didn’t have a digital TV).
In 2012, ABC-TV had coverage from 7pm-11pm on ABC2, and 4:30am-8am on ABC1, with a nightly highlights program from 6pm-7pm on ABC1.
In 2008, ABC2 had afternoon and evening sessions, plus nightly highligts on ABC1 from 6pm-7pm, and again from around 11:30pm.
AFAIK, prior to then, ABC generally had a nightly highlights package (even for Sydney 2000). IIRC for one winter Paralympics edition in the 90s, they did weekly highlights.
I remember 2002 being our most successful Winter Paralympics, wherein we won six gold medals (four of them won by Michael Milton).
We have only won one gold medal at a Winter Paralympics since (Simon Patmore in 2018).
Bracey and Ellie now handing over to Sylvia and Dylan Alcott at The Mob Hotel in Paris.
We have come a long way in the past 20 years for Paralympics coverage in Australia. 2008 despite being at a good timezone, ABC put the Paralympics on then Digital-only ABC2 and ABC HD meaning people without DTV were not able to watch any coverage.
Fast forward to 2024 we have coverage on linear, streaming and online via Channel Nine and Stan Sport as with the Olympics.

What a shit set. At least they’re in person tho I guess…
I think it’s great. Instead of the studio
Interesting that they’ve gone for the main blue colour used on 9 rather than the 9Gem pink for the logo
All 3 channels used for live sport
Nine now experiencing audio issues with heavy rain in the background.
Coverage has been just like the Olympics. Perth viewers on ABC did not get any live coverage at all 12 years ago
