Former federal MP Craig Laundy has given an exclusive interview to The Sunday Telegraph about his fatherās purchase of Nine Radio network. The article reveals that the Laundy family initially approached Nine boss Matt Stanton with an unsolicited bid, but were told the sale process would be opening up soon and negotiations began with Nineās investment bank. The Laundys have entered a shared services agreement with Nine to maintain some of the operations while they beef-up the operations on their side.
Craig Laundy on his familyās surprise radio buyout and why he wonāt ātell it how to barkā
Sunday Herald Sun reported yesterday that Arthur Laundy would have lunch with some of 3AWās key presenters today, including Ross Stevenson, Russel Howcroft, Tom Elliott, Jacqui Felgate and Jimmy Bartel.
Not surprised Arthur has done this. If you ever see him at his pubs, he will walk around and talk to the customers. Itās not a bad move - shows he does give a little bit of a shit about the customers and the people at the coalface.
Also, not a bad move to sign an services agreement with Nine as they get things sorted at their end. A nice orderly exit for Nine.
I think it is a good move having someone a little out of the ordinary owning these stations. Laundy is a good character and business owner.
It will be beneficial to 4BC and 6PR in the long term, if other groups had bought in those station would have ended up with endless networking.
So is it clear that Nine Radioās new owners will keep localism at 4BC?
Yet, still no official confirmation who is replacing 4BCās WWOS since Peter Psaltisā departure.
And what is the new owner calling the network? As I mentioned previously, I think they should bring back the Macquarie Radio Network brand.
The IP and trademarks may well still sit with Nine Radio; however, I suspect the Laundy Family Trust would be unlikely to entertain the idea. It could create confusion among listeners and potentially give the impression that John Singleton remains involved in some capacity, which he clearly is not.
Anyone else a bit annoyed with how much slop is turning up in these trade mag articles? Iām assuming AI is being used to pad out these articles, or maybe this style is just catching on. Phrases like this jump out at me all the time these days:
The symbolism is unmistakable. Laundy isnāt waiting for settlement paperwork to clear before shaping culture.
He is already showing up.
It reads like the average LinkedIn post.
Nothing concrete just a gut feeling. I think under Singo, Hutchison or the consortium with Fordham there definitely would have been alot of networking.
I feel WWOS should be a local show on 4BC so hopefully they do replace Peter Psaltis rather than continuing to network.
Iād get rid of the show entirely if it were me
Flow FM still calls their news bulletins Macquarie News Update.
According to the Herald Sun, Tony Tardio is on āmedically approved leaveā from 3AW as his matter is heard with Fair Work and as he has been hospitalised with kidney stones.
Kidney stones are fairly serious. Wish Tony a speedy recovery.
Seems like Tony Jones has lost interest in filling in for 3AW hosts.
I see that Heidi Murphy is listed to host Mornings during the Easter break. And Shane McInnes will host the program for three days in March whilst Tom is away.
Jimmy Bartel is away all this week. Matt Granland is hosting Wide World of Sports from Tuesday to Thursday. Bruce Eva was in the chair on Monday night and would be back on Friday.
Probably a good thing. He wasnāt great and never improved. Mind you Shane isnāt great either.
True. Didnāt hear him at all over the summer period either.
Tony also has existing television commitments, which means itās entirely possible he wouldnāt have the availability to take on additional shifts on AW while simultaneously managing his news responsibilities or any hosting roles.
