Nine Radio (Talk)

There’s been quite a bit of research done in the UK over the years - and I’m sure the findings probably apply equally to Australia - which confirms listeners value local shows at breakfast more than at any other time of the day. Like you, I’m surprised that Alan Jones gets the volume of listeners he does at breakfast in Brisbane, there is very little Brisbane-focused content outside the bulletins.

When Ray Hadley was first simulcast on 4BC, the public ‘commitment’ was that he would broadcast his show from there once or twice a week. That didn’t last long!

The 3AW website has a total revamp today. The new layout looks pretty good. There is a quick link to listen to live streaming of most programs (or watch the studio in action) on top of the screen, as you scroll down the page to check various articles and links.

Finally. This means that all Macquarie stations now have their new websites. 6PR switched over a couple of weeks ago.

2GB have had a revamped website for a few months but we are still waiting for the cameras to be installed or turned on. Lifestyle have had it all the while but the panel operators seem to turn them on and off whenever it suits them.

Do you believe the surveys however? I sure don’t. The turnover of clients is proof that clients don’t get results on 4BC/BH.

He also doesn’t have a Brisbane producer any more. Jamie McK now works for AAP in Syd.

Sunday Herald Sun reports 3AW food and travel show A Moveable Feast (Saturdays 11am-midday) will have a 6-part TV version on Channel Seven from June 4.

Alan Jones has given a character reference for corrupt former NSW mining minister Ian Macdonald who is due to be sentenced next week. The judge justice Christine Adamson stated that Jones’ reference will have little impact on her decision on a sentence.

[quote]Justice Adamson asked Macdonald’s barrister, Matthew Johnston, SC, if Jones’ reference to Macdonald being found guilty in the court of “public opinion” referred to the jurors “selected at random” from the community.

Mr Johnston said it was a reference to people Jones spoke to as a broadcaster.

“You can imagine what weight I give that,” Justice Adamson said.

Jones has had the ear of a long line of NSW premiers. In the courts his apparent influence means nothing, as it should be.

Agree. What a fool of Jones to agree to provide such a reference and more foolish was Macdonald’s defence who had nothing and clearly are clutching at straws.

Yesterday afternoon Wendy Harmer called into the 702 Drive Show. They were discussing when people have taken the law into their own hands to achieve an outcome.

Wendy’s story was about her local 7-11. A few years ago it was selling men’s magazines that she thought were inappropriate (they were prominently displayed). One day she saw that the new addition came with a magnifying glass so you could “check out the norks” (Wendy’s words) in more detail. The mags were next to the lollies. There were some “young boys” staring at them.

Wendy complained to the manager. No response.

So she explained how she took the law into her own hands. She called The Ray Hadley Show. The next day the men’s mags had disappeared.

Classic.

Did Hadley know the Wendy who was calling was Harmer?

Wendy said that she called anonymously.

I’ve noticed the new 3AW website lists the times for some of the shows incorrectly.

For example Money News is listed as 6:00PM - 8:00PM. This is the time for the full show on 2GB but 3AW only take the second hour. The same for Steve Price 8:00PM-12:00AM. 3AW only take the first 2 hours before going to Nightline at 10pm. Probably a bug given the new website platform is for the whole Macquarie network and share a common back-end CMS.

Macquarie is conducting a survey about 2GB and Talking Lifestyle. Link to it is here:

such diversity in that presenting lineup, although I suppose it does display the gamut of male balding :stuck_out_tongue:

Hopefully there’s a segment on Talking Lifestyle detailing the teeth whitening they are all using.

This went to air on 8 June, so last Thursday:

http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/transcripts/s4682884.htm

At the start of the video within that link, you’ll hear a 2GB female journo completely muck up her panelling and bulletin preparation concluded with a profanity.

What time and day did this go to air? Who is the newsreader?

It’s not the first time similar has happened. Resources and training must be stretched, wouldn’t have happened when Justin Kelly or Jason Morrison was news director.

It was last Monday the 5th of June and was the 11PM News read by Kate Cardwell.

It sounded as though there was computer issues and she was without digital scripts as you could hear paper moving between each story and there was no audio bites of any of the stories, also she did not break at the normal places like after the finance for the sports title and again after the sport for the ads and the weather title.

The Australian reports John Singleton and Mark Carnegie has launched a bid to take full ownership of Macquarie Radio Network. Fairfax Media currently owns 54.5% of the network, Singleton has 34% stake and Carnegie 11.5%. Singleton and Carnegie formally handed a request to Fairfax chief Greg Hywood after the market closed yesterday, seeking access to the publisher’s due diligence room to firm up finance with ANZ
Bank. Interesting times ahead.

Alan Jones spoke on 2GB this morning. He was very sick last week and his doctor has said he “was close to leaving us”

Imagine 2GB without Alan. It would be like 2DayFM without Kyle.

I could live a happy life with both of those prospects. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
