News Flash:
Breaking News doesn’t wait for a shift change or particular program.
That’s the backbone of ‘News/Talk Radio’.
Exclusive stories are a different category.
Whichever presenter has it, covers it.
Each program on a talk station should be advancing the news/information agenda of the day. The major difference is the presenters style.
It’s the PD’s role to ensure each program doesn’t become a silo, guide the overall output and keep the communication flowing between news and programs.
Whether it’s ‘personality’ news/talk radio or not, these basics should always apply.

I don’t recall too much time on Tom’s old slot being allocated to breaking news. Generally he would use the breaking story and drive opinion around that. They had regular news updates.
Tom is an opinion man. He couldn’t sit and just talk news scripts. Will read the headline but then go down his own path.

Tom did not have much breaking news because media department still focus on the 5pm/6pm/7pm news on TV. So A lot of Press Conferences are earlier so they can get the sound bytes and then the journo prepare for the news program. News on the radio is different as they do not have pictures attached to the audio
The Evening program is not a breaking news show. It is a wrap up of all the news during the day as people from work are driving home.
Neil Mitchell and Tom now in his spot are breaking news show(Some what Breakfast too).
Felgate had the Lord Mayor in for about 25 mins… managed to take 2 calls. Awful waste of time and segment. Either no one called or they didn’t want to put anyone to air due to the toxicity that surrounds Sally Capp

Apart from Nine Music (ACE) radio stations, does Nine Radio provide hourly news for any other radio networks like they used to when they were Macquarie/Fairfax?

2CC from 7pm weekdays until next morning, and from 1pm weekends until next morning. 2CA takes the prefeed 3 minute bulletin from 7pm-10pm weeknights, not sure about weekends. I believe the other Capital Radio music stations (2GN, 2XL, 3GG, 6IX) follow the 2CA format

Having listened to some of the podcasts can’t say I’m loving Tony McManus on overnights. He seems like a nice guy but Moclair had much better regular guests. McManus has removed a lot of the relaxed talkback in favour of more serious/newsy segments.
Good to hear Clinton Maynard back on the weekend overnight show. He runs a very good program. Clinton confirmed he’ll be hosting both Saturday and Sunday shows going forward.

So Pat Panetta is gone?
I think Pat was only temporary whilst Clinton was busy with other duties at 2GB in the back half of last year. I’m sure Pat will still fill-in on occasion.

Clinton’s workload and commitment are legendary, often working 7 days a week it seems, so I’m sure there’ll be times when he needs to take it a bit easier and have days off for the sake of his own wellbeing

Yes Clinton thanked Pat at the start of his first show back and said Pat will often be heard on 2GB throughout the year.

Listening to Jacqui Felgate and her husband on the Domestic Bliss segment is like fingers down a chalkboard.
