Someone in the decision chair is a fan of Bill’s. Check the 9 TV research…he doesn’t appeal or have warmth.
I agree. Surprised they didn’t give Bill a sports show. He would be in his element.
Olympia is doing a one hour show every Monday. 2 pm to 3 pmBill does Tuesday to Friday.
Messy. Just extend local drive shifts.
Herald Sun reports today that Dr Sally Cockburn aka Dr Feelgood has hung up her microphone after 30 years on radio. She most recently hosted Talking Health on 3AW on Sunday evenings.
Yep last show was last Sunday. Guess more networked sponsored content will replace her.
Why is John Stanley being piped into 3AW tonight? Walter managed to get a program out when the unfounded curfew was on, so why not now?
Denis Walter has been as normal tonight from what I’ve heard?!
Walter is on the stream on the 3AW website.
Thanks @mirb & @littlegezzybear strange that John Stanley gave a time call for NSW and Vic and mentioned the lockdown. Perhaps he fancies himself having a Melb audience listening to the stream?
Are any regional VIC stations taking the show? I don’t think there are, but maybe he’s even just thinking about the border stations like 2EC taking the show? It wouldn’t surprise me if John does have a few VIC streamers considering his show was on 3AW for months.
When ever I listen to John Stanley I get the suspicion that he still thinks he’s on 3AW too. Did someone forgot to tell him? Has he noticed less (or no) callers from Victoria?
John Stanley is such a fence-sitting bore.
I agree, but he was a cheap replacement and it doesn’t seem to have affected the ratings. It’s worked out perfectly for 2GB after they axed Steve Price.
I really enjoy John’s style. Most people don’t want to be barked at during the evening time slot. His show is well produced and has great guests. John Stanley has integrity and warmth which I think counts for a lot in radio.
I think he does too, he has been around the Sydney radio traps for well over 30 years and clearly (due to networking) has far more listeners than Denis Walter. Normally I believe evening programmes should be networked but more than happy Water is doing nights on 3AW and network stations.
The earliest reference I can find for John Stanley is an SMH article from March 1981 that has him “rejoining 2SM to read the afternoon news”. It states that he had most recently been the breakfast newsreader at 2WS, and before that was the Canberra correspondent for 2SM. I would have heard his Canberra reports on 2SM but have no recollection of him back then. I didn’t realise he been on Sydney radio for 40 years. He did do a stint on 2CA in the late 1980s, when he was the Canberra correspondent for 2GB.
Started his career at 2VM Moree I believe.
According to today’s Sunday Herald Sun, Rex Hunt has signed a new deal with 3AW to continue to be host of Footy Nightline on Friday and Saturday late nights during the 2021 AFL season.
3AW’s political editor James Talia has resigned from the network after 3 years to become Director
of Strategic Communications at COVID-19 Quarantine Victoria.
