I heard Jimâs first half hour or so.
A great opening welcome, thanked past and current employer, family etc. Singled out Kerry Stokes plus Tom and Greg of Nine Radio.
First call a friend from Werris Creek. Seven weatherman, David Brown phoned in to wish him well.
Phone dropped out with tech contributor Charlie Brown, handled fine.
Mentioned that Paul Christenson is EP (formerly producing Alanâs show), a male and female to round out the production team. Panel op as a permanent staff member and also gave thanks to network content Greg Byrnes for being there too.
Opening music was INXS, New Sensation. Tim Webster also used the song when on UE.
Jimâs style of delivery is a polished broadcast voice without the accentuated âsports yakâ that Hadley and Levy along with many TV sport journos have.
Prior to 3pm, George Moore filling in for Deb Knight had a three way conversation with Jim and Mark Levy to preview the Sydney and Brisbane drive shows. George made an awkward comment about Mark needing to hate NSW now heâs broadcasting solely to 4BC and they all laughed it off. George offered advice never to promise not to dump callers as apparently many first time talk hosts do.
Sampling Levyâs stream, for a Brisbane only show, there was a lot of national content and not much local, it was a strange selection of content. Heavy on sport too.
I really am liking what Nine have done with 2GB. I really wasnât a regular listener back in the Alan, Ray, Chris, Ben and Steve days but the hosts they have now are really warm and welcoming. Its definitely lost its aggressive and yelling nature (Ray aside). Jim and Deb definitely the highlights of the station at the moment.
Itâs not up to the quality of 3AW, but improved indeed.
Interesting that Alanâs Sky News show can be listened to via iHeart Radio.
Is this the deal that was being proposed when his contract was up for negotiation?
Itâs all minus the Super Network breakfast deal.
Sky News Australia has been on iHeart Radio for a few months. Unrelated to any deals with Alan AFAIK.
Edit: fixed formatting
If it was specifically for iHeartRadio I think Jones would be in breach of his contract with 2GB.
I wonder if George Moore will get a permanent gig at GB. I donât think they will break Chris Smithâs contract. Unless he gets 6am to 9am on weekends, but the garden should would go. Give him a gig on UE from Sat and Sun 1pm to 6pm.
Or just get George and Paul back together lol.
Yeah bring back Paul. Then Ringo and John as well .
An interview with Rozelle local resident Ian MacRae was played on the 3:00pm news. He was one of the people tested for COVID-19 on Tuesday and has since been told the samples have been lost.
MacRae of course was a popular dj and presenter on 2GB, 2UE, 2UW and 2SM.
Jim Wilson in the 2GB studio, via the website live stream.
Thatâs really weird⌠why would he call in or why would they call him?
Next weâll have âlocal resident Kyle Sandilandsâ calling up Will & Woody.
Well he works for Australian Traffic Network (ATN) which has or did have close ties with Nine Radio. Macrae and George Moore have worked together on and off so that would probably be the connection.
Sounds like new sport and weather imaging on 2GB. Not sure I like it but probably overdue for a change.
If Iâm not mistaken, the old 2GB themes had been in-use since the Early 2000s so very well overdue for a change.
The new Sport & Weather themes are OK, but exactly same as whatâs used on 2UE (and no doubt the other Nine Music stations).
Any chance of getting an audio sample?
EDIT: Just had a listen at 7:30am and it does sound the same as 2UE, etc.
A little odd for a network to play the same audio imaging across its two networks.
Then again, it is a 9News productionâŚ
4BC and 3AW are using the updated traffic and Weather jingles. I havenât heard 6PR yet but safe to assume they are using them too.
Yeh. New imaging on 3AW too. Sounds good.
Havenât heard a traffic report yet?
New Nine traffic reporter at GB.
Just had a listen to 6PR. They have it too. I guess a standardised logo will be next.
