Nine Radio (Talk)

Gordon O’Byrne who was the afternoon DJ on 2SM when it was number 1 and rating 20%+ in the late 1970s should feel insulted.

From Radioinfo:

“Farcical construction of false claims,” Adam Lang slams Tele article

Last Thursday, following the very public departure of Chris Smith from 2GB’s Afternoon shift, The Daily Telegraph published a scathing article about MacRadio CEO Adam Lang. Headed, ‘Smiling assassin’ next in 2GB’s spotlight.

Even if the article is full of false claims as asserted by Lang, this statement in the article is true:

Talking Lifestyle was a total failure. The ratings show that Macquarie Sports Radio is a failure.

Steve Price confirmed for afternoons on 2GB, 4BC and 2CC - but not 3AW (which he seems disappointed about, saying it was a management decision because of how well Denis Walter rates)

Agreed although in comparison with MSR, TL was a relative success in Sydney!

If Steve Price moves to afternoons on 2gb. Will that means that Nightline with Simon/Phil start at 8pm on 3aw?

They can broadcast Steve Price Afternoon show in Melbourne on NTS though unless they forgot about that. They could broadcast Alan Jones and Ray Hayley shows on NTS in Melbourne as well

In other words MML should use NTS to broadcast 2gb shows into Melbourne and broadcast 3aw shows into Sydney and Brisbane

If they not going to do that might as well convert NTS into a “Magic Station” playing music again

I wonder if he will rate any higher than Chris Smith I think a lot of Sydney listeners still regard him as a Melbourne person.

When I think young and contemporary I think Steve Price. God help them.

Are they seriously suggesting Chris Smith is being replaced because he didn’t rate?

Let’s face it, Denis Walter isn’t being replaced because Macquarie Media can’t afford to have another shit storm on their hands. No doubt Nine management have told them to back off because such a move has the potential to damage both 3AW and GTV at a time when they can least afford it.

They’re not going to get young and contemporary view from a 64 year old. Chris Smith is about eight years younger than Price with even younger children. I can’t see how Steve “I’m not a right-wing shock jock” Price’s views will be too dissimilar considering they belong to the same generation.

Just read in The Sunday Telegraph that Adam Lang is in talks with Merrick Watts to replace Price on 2GB nights and can’t stop laughing.

I like Merrick. But he is no AM talk jock. He’s better suited to FM comedy, unless he intends to bring it to 2GB. Can you see Lousy Lang doing that?

Is Rosso looking for work?

Considering Macquarie just ‘pushed out’ a high-rating presenter, nothing would surprise me now

At least Denis Walter will continue in Melbourne……………well, for the moment!

Maybe they’ll wait until the end of the year then start Price on 3AW afternoons next year.

That was my thought too - January or whenever Walter’s contract is up for renewal

Totally agree. The justification is surreal. I’m sure Chris Smith must feel even more annoyed than ever now because of how they’ve explained the decision in public.

On the evidence of the last week I think this is quite a likely outcome

Do you think 2sm might give him a gig in Sydney after John Laws in the afternoon?
