Voice of Channel 7 Deeksy doing AW overnight, filling-in for Tony Moclair (on holidays like the rest?) He’s covered before too.
Seems a bit of an over-reaction on the part on Macquarie to call in the police to remove a presumably loyal listener trying to hand in a petition. Hardly great PR for them
Bet the show doesn’t have the same vibe as his shifts on The Greater 3UZ did. Probably just as many live reads, mind.
All loyal family members of newsroom staff of the Tele trying to help out their loved family working thankless jobs at News Corp is more like it.
Sounds like a total beat up.
None of us are surprised.
The contrast is that Stanley has class.
If you like nasal voices.
Judging by this tweet, Smith won’t be on air today (as was suggested yesterday):
Overton had his facts wrong last night then.
I’m guessing understanding that he didn’t want to work nights so they let him go.
“First Jones, then Hadley and now Smith. Nine bosses think this place is being run like a circus and want to put a broom through the management".- “a highly placed source” quoted by the Daily Telegraph.
Sounds ominous. I’d add the whole MSR debacle to that list. Looks like 2GB management will be the next out the door… if they’re not too scared of those pensioners waiting outside to give them a stern talking to.
If they are looking at more cost cutting my bet is on Ben Fordham being networked into Brisbane.
Wonder if Tony Moclair will be back. Talk is that overnights will come out of Sydney soon.
Who runs the 2GB based one?
Michael McLaren. Although with Steve Price obviously moving from nights to afternoons, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not McLaren gets promoted to nights.
Currently Michael McLaren weekdays and Luke Grant weekends. If McLaren takes on evenings the most likely contenders are Luke Grant, Clinton Maynard (who has filled in recently) and Dale Sinden who I think is McLaren’s producer and previously did weekends on 2UE (Talking Lifestyle). An issue is that 2GB and 3AW run very different overnights. I guess it is a waiting game to see what happens.
2GB and 3AW overnights are indeed very different from each other. I wonder if they might end up with some sort of compromise to try and keep everyone happy like in the last couple of years of 2UE when overnights during the week came from Sydney and at weekends from Melbourne. This would probably mean a newsy overnights during the week (with Luke Grant the most likely contender to present I’d say if Michael McLaren changes slots) and then a ‘lighter’ overnights at the weekend from Melbourne, no doubt with our old friend Alan Pearsall continuing to survive every change that comes along!
Actually is was Moclair weekdays and Pearsall weekends and after a barrage of complaints David Prior and Dale Sinden took over with Moclair and Pearsall only heard in Melbourne. The main problems were Melbourne listeners sending cheerios and prayers to each other and that dreadful woman from Nhill with the “highs and lows” in her voice who would ring Pearsall every Saturday morning, maybe she still does. Surely we have moved on from this type of radio rubbish.
Owen Delaney successfully did a Sydney-Melbourne overnight news program on 2GB and 3AW decades ago. It is possible, if they try.
Wait, so what happens with Denis Walter then? As that means Price won’t be heard on 3AW radio anymore.
Prior and Sinden were the Talking Lifestyle era, Luke Bona did weekday overnights from Sydney for the last couple of years of 2UE with Pearsall out of Melbourne at the weekends. Bona then moved briefly to TL early evenings when that station started but didn’t hang around long. However, I do agree with your general point about the content of Pearsall’s show - it sounds terribly dated and old-fashioned, yet presumably it still attracts an audience of sorts in Melbourne otherwise he’d have been long gone by now - unless they can’t persuade anyone else to take it on!
Best thing he ever did was move to Triple M… he is fantastic on the night show. He is always light and very informative. Give me the Night Shift with Luke Bona over Hadl y or Jones any day
I suddenly got very agitated when you reminded us of that woman. I remember lying in bed one Saturday morning, listening to that woman prattle on about Mary from the CWA and her ingrown toenail (or some such nonsense) and then yelling at the radio “this isn’t the f-ing bush telegraph where’s your f-g call control”. I made a point to never go to sleep with the radio on 2UE over the weekend after that. I couldn’t believe they’d put that to air in a major metro market like Melbourne.
