Nine Radio (Music)

It’s like they’ve given up before the station has even started and they know it will tank. They don’t seem optimistic and they’ve given themselves an easy out. I’d love to know what they consider to be acceptable ratings to keep it going because six months isn’t enough time to establish a format that even has promise.

I’m going to miss Talking Lifestyle… this THREAD, not the stations

And hoping for a sale.

Radio is the most immune to new media changes unlike newspaper and tv, where is the investor interest both local and international in buying some of these assets?

The lack of interest as there once was is a shame.

Magic in Melbourne often rated better than SEN (even with Smooth’s ascendency) and would’ve been a much cheaper operation, even before Steve Woods’ consultancy ended the long time announcers.

In Brisbane, 4BH has even better prospects, it was thought at the time, BH had another 5 years left in it with its music format (again pre Steve Woods/Magic 882). Longer if digital uptake was pursued.

I’ll now wait for @Brianc68’s comment who is typing… What gold! The discussion will continue with the same speculation and frustration.

Just sell it to Crocmedia and be done with it.

That would break the reach rule.

Croc already owns SEN and 3MP (Classic Rock) IIRC.

I just wish they would bloody give 3EE back to the ACMA (which will never happen).

I think a simulcast of Victoria Police radio would rate more then what’s currently on offer now!

Easy fixed. Sell 3EE to someone else. Maybe to 2CH’s owners.

I was thinking of them when discussing their website. It has been underwhelming what they’ve done with 2CH.

This station could be easily modelled to a point of difference to Smooth that is relevant to the 55+ age group, but it seems nothing has changed save for the logo.

I wonder if we will ever know if there was a no compete music clause with 2ch.

Don’t know if anyone on here did hear Pete Graham’s annoucement last night. However, as it now seems to have been confirmed Talking Lifestyle is ending on Friday and the new station is starting the following day, it seems that Pete will be continuing. Perhaps the announcement was something to do with a special for the Easter weekend or something linked to the Commonwealth Games?

Just listening to Sharina now. No hint at all that this is the last week or she is moving over to 2GB/4BC - indeed she is talking about future weeks - so it does seem she survives once again! Quite how her show will fit into a sports talk format is anyone’s guess!

Doubt we’ll ever know but if I was EON, I’d certainly have insisted on a ‘no compete’ clause!

It all confirms what Trevor Long has been writing on his public Facebook page that insiders don’t expect the new station to work. I’ve seen other comments from “insiders” in the same vein.

What a farce! Yet another relaunch in the next 12 months will just wipe out what very limited credibility Macquarie has left with these frequencies. They’re obviously playing for time whilst they try and come up with a longer-term plan. To be honest they’d be far better to struggle along with Talking Lifestyle until they’ve decided what that longer-term plan is rather than risk yet another disaster.

Any idea on what the new station will be called? Talking Sport?

Unfortunately I didn’t hear it although judging by crankymedia’s post above, I would guess the “plans for a special show” next week might be his last unless there’s an Easter weekend special or something happening.

Personally, I wonder what the station is going to be branded as from Saturday. Surely it won’t still be known as “Talking Lifestyle” under the sports format?

She would know…

The new format is just her predicting winners and scores.

You really think so?, I would have thought she was just a fraud

Well, if they have any spare cash that is. Surely they were sold a “lemon” by the Macquarie Morons. I would have thought the logical thing to do would have the Lifestyle stations in Melbourne and Brisbane to revert back to Easy Listening. Maybe they could have an arrangement with EON to just relay the programming out of 2CH, at least it would give the Melbourne and Brisbane listeners the music they had enjoyed in the past.

What interests me is where John, Gary and Tim are going to go or are they just going to ride off into the sunset. I guess Tim might just want to retire. Some of the others have other interests so I suppose it won’t bother them too much or they will just hang out for the next resurrection. The input from Kayley Harris was just “waffle”, clearly she didn’t learn much since her days on 2WS with Hans Torv.

Pete Graham made mentions last night that he is planning on retiring, he said he had considered retiring last year, but now with the changes that are happening and the fact that he will be 67 later this year he will retire, so I guess next week will be his retirement party. He did also say that he would be moving to an over 50’s village so not sure how true the whole retiring from radio part is.

It seems as though it will still be Talking Lifestyle up until next Sunday, through out today with Clinton Maynard on his various segments he alluded to next Sunday, for example at the end of buy swap and sell saying “That wraps us up for this week will do it all again from 1 o’clock next Sunday”, and then at the end of the show with Ritchie D, they mentioned that next week they would talk about 2 factor authentication.

Interesting update thanks very much. Macquarie were the ones who previously said Talking Lifestyle would be ending on Friday 30 March, so once again you can’t rely on anything they say! Mind you, if Talking Lifestyle’s last day did end up being Sunday 1 April, that would somehow be appropriate - having taken their listeners for fools from start to finish!
