Nine Radio (Music)

Forget about you by the Motors.

I didn’t know you were such a sentimental sap. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Making My Mind Up - Bucks Fizz

Speaking of jingles, I again feel there’s a missed opportunity by bringing back the Magic name.

For starters, Magic DAB+ Perth just complicates my point. This is yet again a three station network pretending to be four (like we have planets and dwarf planets, DAB+ consists of stations amd dwarf stations).

Again, using my 3DB example (because I can’t think of a more deregistered and abandoned heritage call-sign), if you have a set of call-signs with same number of syllables, you can very easily come up with a matching jingle package.

So…4BH, 2UE, 3DB.

You can’t do that with Magic.

Not saying it’s a mistake to bring back Magic (as I’m really don’t know). But it’s a missed opportunity.

It would be an equally missed opportunity to call it 3EE. Except for a short period the station was called the BREEZE (hence the EE contained in the name), it’s a meaningless call-sign.

I assert the missed opportunity was to bring back a heritage call-sign, the most legendary music call-sign being 3XY (which is not deregistered because it’s been back in use since 1994.

Most appropriate:
Dusty Springfield - I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself

Honourable Mention:
The Sports - Who listens to the Radio

Most likely - Magic1278:
America - You can do Magic

Most likely - 2UE/4BH:
INXS - New Sensation

What I’d play:
Everclear - AM Radio

Fixed again.

I know that you mean but I think Magic qualifies as heritage in Melbourne. I know a few people in Melbourne and they still identify with it.

Would have been great if they had used 3XY though.

I’m guessing ARN would throw a hissy if they used 3TT

Indeed, if I’m not mistaken the Magic brand had been running in Melbourne for at least two decades before the format was axed in Early 2017?

What was stupid was the idea of extending the Magic brand to Brisbane and (even though it didn’t entirely replace a heritage callsign) especially Sydney after the spectacular failure another station in the market had under the “Magic” brand a few decades prior!

I’m sure they would, as I think the official call sign is still 3TTT.

And they would probably object to the use of 3KZ as well.

Looking at the list of most viewed and replied threads in Mediaspy I am surprised it (Nine Music Radio) isn’t number one in both viewed and replied threads in the “Major Metro radio” section. Hit Network is number one with 141K views vs Nine Music radio being only 86.4 K at the time of this post.

They might need another format change in 6 months to keep the momentum going to reach number one by firstly breaking that triple digits barrier in views with the aim to be number one.

The first song should be, We Built This City - Starship, seeing as 2UE was more or less the first Top 40 Station in Australia, albeit programmed out of 2KO Newcastle.

Gold have not technically had the 3KZ name for many years. Rather sad that the converted stations let these names slip. The trading name 3KZ was last registered by Austereo when they owned GOLD 1043/ 3KKZ FM. The business name was deregistered in late 2008. Australian Radio Network have never owned it.
Noise FM have the name now along with a swag of heritage brands including 4GG, 3GL, EONFM, 5KA, 4BK, 6KY, 2NX.

How is that legally possible? I thought brand names were a “use or lose it” proposition.

And who is Noise FM, anyway? Surely not the same station @Mechsta joined as a pimply faced teen?

All a business name allows is for the owner to use it in place of their legal name. You can “own” them for as long as you pay the annual fee. They are separate to trademarks and other registrations and have a lower priority than most other registrations - so owning a business name doesn’t necessarily give you free range to use it. For example you may be able to register a business name that is in breach of a trademark and therefore be stopped from actually using it if the trademark owner objects.

IF they wanted to use a former call sign as their brand, they would be best to change their existing callsign to that, and register the trademark.

I am referring to the business name, it is amazing how many have been deregistered. Yes even 3XY has been deregistered! (ARE YOU READING THIS NINE RADIO) Talking of 3XY, it is listed as a defunct callsign . It is not a registered business name of Greek Media and more importantly the ACMA search portal link here has no reference to it and 1422 https://web.acma.gov.au/rrl/register_search.search_dispatcher
