They also have the rights to the summer version in Dakar which will be the first Olympics of any kind to be held in Africa. The most recent version was in Buenos Aires back in 2018

Wonder if Nine will have a host or any talent present for the 2024 Gangwon Youth Winter Olympics? Probably unlikely. Though wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a dedicated reporter to file a report or two for Nine News and Today, even if just v/o from Sydney.
I’d expect some more cross-promotion during today’s Aus Open and promos, including Nine News and into this evening’s telecasts. Could have a good lead-in for 9Go! too, as that channel carries the main channel tennis feed for an hour at 6pm during news (will be even better timed for Qld markets).

Strange not to have seen promos or cross-promotion during tonight’s tennis (despite some during this week including for and on 9Now), unless I’m just blind/deaf.
Perhaps in fact indicative of Nine’s true interest and push (or lack thereof) for viewers with this event, maybe an IOC stipulation for some sort of broadcast in Nine’s contract?

I’m assuming that if Nine were showing every event live, then they would have promoted tonight’s Opening Ceremony during the tennis coverage a bit more, but probably thought it wasn’t worth it. Nine’s only airing the Opening and Closing Ceremonies live, and the games itself as a Highlights Packages Show daily on 9Go at 1pm.

“8.55” is a bizarre time, let alone the channel (although yes network AO commitments make things challenging).
What happened with Nine News Perth this evening (due to time zone and main tennis feed on 9Go!) 9Life?
All this currently is good prep for Paris 2024 this year.
The Opening Ceremony on the Youth Games just finished.
The 8.55pm start is odd, but perhaps the actual ceremony started at 9pm, with only a couple of minutes intro? If there was one?

It’s the Youth Olympics. It’s thrown in by the IOC with deals but really few care about it other than the families of those competing

9GO! in Perth had the tennis at 6pm, then straight to Youth Winter Olympics opening ceremony at 7pm.

The international commentary was fairly lifeless. They even managed to talk over the announcement of Australia’s flag bearers entering.

I will be watching it (again). I shut my eyes during the parade of nations and woke up watching 9Go Epic Movie!
I wouldn’t trash on them too much. The YOG is important for the Olympic movement. Many Aussie Olympic medalist have come through the YOG pathway - Jessica Fox, Emma McKeon, Kyal Charmers, Bri Throssell, Madi Wilson, Kaylee McKeown
