Nine News Presenters and Reporters (2020-Feb 2025)

Definitely.

Sunraysia got very close in the Mid 2000s when Seven’s ratings were at their weakest nationally and in Perth, only 10-20k behind on average but the Coronation Street lead-in experiment ruined everything.

I had put that down to Nine getting AFL and also picking up Cometti from TVW. The only time I ever saw anyone I know watching STW was for Hey Hey in the 90s and then AFL when they got it.

A lot of people (myself included) made noise about Dixie and Sonia at that time but looking back they were fine. The cheap look of the bulletin overall was what ruined that for them. It just looked so bad and WIN definitely didn’t help.

In terms of presentation these days STW is well ahead of TVW and they have a good on-air team. I still think Thommo would be better off doing sport but he is doing ok where he is. Long term though I’m not sure he is their answer.

Long term I would like to see Monika at 6 (geez, back in the TT Days I would have never said that!) and Tracy/Natalia at 5.

Wouldn’t surprise me if changes like this are in the pipeline.

I’m torn about Natalia Cooper. She’s a lovely lady and I really liked her presenting weather on Today but in all honesty, I can’t take her seriously as a newsreader. She’s far too bubbly and bright and when she’s reading the news (as she has done on 4pm Sydney a few times the past few months) I just laugh when I see her.

This is by no means an attack or meant to be a negative comment I just think her strengths lie somewhere else.

It’d be like Sam Mac or JT reading the news. Wouldn’t work.

I’m also really struggling with Eddy on Sunrise. She’s been on weather/ entertainment for so long now I can’t connect with her as a newsreader.

As much as Mon is far better than Thommo at news, they’d be silly to shaft him back to sports and make any other major changes. The bulletin rates well by their standards (they are beating 10 News First) and Thommo’s probably their highest paid presenter so it’s likely cheaper for them to keep him.

I could however see Natalia doing something like Today Perth News or similar if that was reinstated sometime down the track.

Today Perth - Natalia Cooper
Afternoon News - Monika Kos
6pm Weeknights - Michael Thomson
6pm Weekends - Tracy Vo

Did I just see Nine’s Bill Hogan hold a 7 News mic during the Afternoon News in Sydney? Lauren Tomasi was in same shot with Nine News mic.

UPDATE: On his Twitter he has joined 7 News just a few days ago. Wow!

Laura Tunstall also left last week. Definitely an exodus from TCN in recent times.

Nick Takaboff reports in The Australian that Erin Molan has signed a new deal with Nine that will see her continue to present Friday and Saturday sport in Sydney. She won’t appear on Nine’s NRL coverage, with the reason provided being that something had to give, because she also hosts 2DAY FM Breakfast.

Not a big problem I’d imagine. They’d probably get James Bracey to do Friday nights as well (and become ā€˜Chief NRL Anchor) or maybe someone like Emma Lawrence or Danika Mason to host Friday nights.

Agree, I prefer Emma and Danika anyway.

Paywall alert, but there’s speculation that former Nine News Adelaide sport presenter Kym Dillon might be a contender to replace Warren Tredrea on the Adelaide bulletin. Wouldn’t mind a familiar face back on.
