One of the rare Melburnian journalists who chooses not to either stay or return there one day, while also making a higher profile career since in Sydney.
She goes back to Ten News Melbourne in the Mal Walden and Helen Kapalos era, around 2008/2009, also covered Black Saturday, went to Nine’s ACA in Sydney later in 2011 IIRC.
I remember hearing rumours at the time she wasn’t pleased with decisions/promotions of colleagues, to CoS’ or trying fill-in presenting, namely Kate McGrath (since a senior GTV manager), Alicia McMillan (previously HSV) and Hermione Kitson.

And thank god she didn’t! Missed opportunity by 10. Kate has excelled majorly since moving to TCN9.
Renae Henry is another that comes to mind has since left obviously.

They do that pretty much every year. What was unusual was that Andrew and Melissa both went on leave together and it was earlier this year. Usually one does early December, both on leave from mid-December to Boxing Day, fill-in for New Years week, the other back solo for a few weeks in early January.

I’ve been quite impressed with Ollie Haigh’s anchoring of Adelaide’s 5pm bulletin. I’m sure he has a big future at Nine.

And on the Gold Coast it was back to solo reading for Carla Tooma after just 2 days co-reading with Bruce Paige. Strange arrangement.
The bulletin has local weather, surf and sports ( Matt Tsimpikas) presenters.

And its had some presenters go on to bigger and better things!
When I was living on the Gold Coast in the late 90s, Leila McKinnon was the regular weather presenter. Natalie Gruzlewski presented weather sometimes. I remember seeing Karl Stefanovic as a fill in newsreader too!

Watching the tennis and the more I see the new 9 News promo and that smug Tom Steinfort the more I wonder what they were thinking. Alicia should have been front and centre solo for this new era of news.
Hope I’m wrong but I can’t see him working.

Alicia should have been front and centre, but since they are worried about 7 they probably would want a duo. Don’t think Tom was the one tho
The only co presenter I could suggest is Hitch. They should have added Alicia to Hitch and had Dougal do weekends for more experience and exposure and then when Hitch was ready move Dougal alongside Alicia.
Now THIS is succession planning.
