As per the tweet linked to in the Journalism Awards thread, Brian Henderson was last night recognised for a Lifetime Achievement at the 2019 Kennedy Awards.
Knowing what Nine Sydney is like when it comes to their former news presenter of over four decades, surely this (along with Hannah Sinclair’s award win for Outstanding Television Reporting) will get a mention during tonight’s bulletin?
Apparently he had 5 exclusive reports to do with the NRL, but I don’t know which particular report was the actual 'scoop of the year ’ can’t find it online.
Well, that stint didn’t last long…and probably also explains why they’ve brought in Grace Fitzgibbon.
Jarrad Brevi has left Nine News Sydney and is now (if his Twitter profile is anything to go by) Media Relations Manager for Pinnacle Investment Management.
Lizzie did a lot of filling in earlier in the year especially on Today and did a great job,now with Sophie Walsh overseas she probably share filling in on daytime bulletins with Mark Burrows.
Today’s rolling coverage alongside Peter Overton is a good learning experience for her.
I’ve mainly been monitoring the coverage of the stabbing incident via this forum (social media during Breaking News is often quite draining, so I generally stay away from it these days), you really have to say this about Nine’s coverage:
Thank f*** Nine have Peter Overton on board today, because Mark Burrows is the type of presenter who I think would really struggle with rolling coverage of an unfolding story!
With this type of coverage even the most experienced newsreader can have difficulties with information coming in and now sure who they are crossing to etc, personally I would’ve liked to see Mark alongside Peter in the studio today and just maybe he might have surprised you with the way he handled rolling coverage.
That’s true, although Mark Burrows’ presenting of normal day-to-day bulletins hasn’t exactly given me much confidence that he’d excel at covering a live breaking story. Peter Overton on the other hand, seems like the type of presenter (at least going by my memory of him presenting Breaking News coverage for Nine in the past) who can reassure viewers that everything is going to be OK even if he had to report that the world was ending.
I also would’ve said that someone like Deborah Knight likely would’ve done a good job if the coverage had been on a Friday (as a few major breaking stories have of late), but unfortunately it seems that Nine has wanted to transition her into a Today-only presenter recently.
