Nine News Late (2020-Feb 2025)

Tracy Vo is hosting tonight bulletin, I assume from Perth.

This is one of the great benefits of nine have consistent sets!

I would like to think this will continue but she’s currently doing the Perth news as well. I assume Michael Thomson won’t be doing the late news any time soon when he returns to Perth news.

Well we hope not

I reckon production from Perth might become a permanent thing one day, so as for Peter Overton to not have to stay up so late to present from Sydney.

These days, the earliest he presents the afternoon news updates for Sydney is during the local afternoon news (Mark Burrows or Davina Smith would present the lone update halfway through Tipping Point).

Production from Perth would be perfect as it would be sometime between 8-9pm their time, allowing for Tracy Vo or Michael Thomson (if called upon to present) to finish early and be home by midnight.

Given that Nine’s Late News only runs Sunday to Thursday, Tracy probably could do it each night + weekend news in Perth. It would mean a 6 day week.

I just hope that Nine’s Late News continues until the rest of year, with Tracy Vo as the main newsreader for the s news bulletin. I do like the idea of having the show from Perth also, rather than always having from the usual Sydney or Melbourne.

Would be great. Tracy is an excellent presenter and deserves national exposure.

Does the Perth editorial team throw lots of extra Perth - WA centric stories in to beat their chest a little?

Sydney always puts Sydney centric stories in national bulletins but I feel it’s due to an inability to see past Sydney and understand that what’s news in Sydney is not always national news. In other words ignorance and an ability to think national and not doing so consciously.

I feel a smaller market like Perth would do it deliberately to try and flex their muscle on a national stage and Over index with Perth content and do so consciously

I would say it’s still the Sydney production team with just Tracy presenting from Perth. I watched last night- the structure of the first segment was a story from each state, a
story from the UK and a story from the US. It wasn’t Sydney-centric and I felt the quality of the bulletin had improved significantly from when it first launched.

Not entirely sure they need that bloke from Bowral doing a quick finance segment though.

Nine loves to do This

A story from each newsroom in a tokenized way.

I notice the same from sunrise - they love to cross to London and LA even if there is not a real story there

It’s only Sydney who does that :stuck_out_tongue: no offence
