Yet the same qualities that fuelled his success would also contribute to professional clashes and personal controversy, turning him into one of the industry’s most talked about cautionary tales.

Award-winning director Marina Zenovich delivers an honest and authentic portrait of the man behind the name, unpacking both the triumphs and the turmoil that shaped Chase’s extraordinary career.

Narrated by candid interviews from Chase’s friends, family and peers, the documentary features appearances from Dan Aykroyd, Beverly D’Angelo, Goldie Hawn, Lorne Michaels, Ryan Reynolds, Martin Short and Kevin Smith, among others. The “proper season” returns to Nine for Thursday Night Footy (as well as Friday night) as per normal.

Surprised that “100% Footy” didn’t start that week either - although am not sure if all of Nine’s NRL team will be there in Las Vegas the day before or not.

Interesting full-screen advisory opener and classification consumer advice tonight, looks like it could be fairly graphic [I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Nlt]

Also suggests that Nine at least and certainly main channel still carefully review and censor their programs, in-line with company program standards and government regulations. Something that’s indirectly been in the news in the UK in recent days with the BAFTA controversy and new paid streamer reforms.

Like what, an enormous 85,000 for an umpteenth re-run of My Sister’s Keeper? This is 2026 not 2008, I think the difference between NRL in Melbourne vs regular alternative programming is very negligible today. GTV have still got Nine News and ACA and against AFL season most viewers would be tuned-in to HSV or Foxtel anyway.

2026 PARADE IS A SHOWCASE OF COMMUNITY CREATIVITY

Melbourne’s most cherished community celebration, the annual Moomba Parade, is set to transform the city into a playground of vivid imagination on Monday, March 9, brought to viewers across Victoria with a broadcast on Channel 9 and 9Now, starting at 2.30 pm.

Steeped in history since 1955, the 2026 parade remains the heartbeat of the Moomba long weekend. This year the streets will come alive with fresh energy as 9News Melbourne’s Alicia Loxley and Tom Steinfort host the coverage.

The 2026 Moomba Parade is a showpiece of community creativity, featuring a massive assembly of 1,800 performers, cultural dancers and musicians. Leading the charge are this year’s Moomba Monarchs: children’s entertainment star Caterina Mete (the Red Wiggle) and Melbourne-based comedian, author, composer and broadcaster Sammy J.

2026 Parade Highlights Include:

A Fleet of Fantasy: Nine stunning floats will roll through the city, including four brand-new designs.

Fresh Creative Talent: 10-year-old Candeece, the visionary behind the popular Dumplings float, returns with the debut of her new Shapes and Scribbles creation.

Giant Spectacles: The procession will feature two towering giant puppets alongside other large-scale surprises designed to captivate the crowds.

Cultural Kaleidoscope: Over 35 community groups will participate, including Samba Do Sul, Lehenda Ukrainian Dance Company, and the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation.

MONARCH SAMMY J TAKES THE PLUNGE

The excitement extends beyond the parade route as Monarch Sammy J joins 12 other brave souls for the Birdman Rally on Sunday, March 8, at 11.00am. Attempting to defy gravity over the Yarra River in homemade craft, the flyers are on a mission to top last year’s $61,000 charity fundraising total.

Lord Mayor Nick Reece said: “I’m so excited for this year’s Moomba Parade led by our ‘couldn’t-be-more-Melbourne-if-they-tried’ Moomba Monarchs Sammy J and Red Wiggle Caterina Mete. This is a massive weekend for Melbourne, kicking off mega March with colour, fun and magic.

“There truly is something for everyone at this year’s Moomba festival.”
