I think at least one-third of the 300 Stan employees is customer service or technical staff.

Yep. And don’t forget, content acquisition team, marketing, tech team, stansport. I mean it’s probably conservative.
300 is pretty low considering snd I imagine some of the tech support team likely would be offshore too.

300 still sounds like a lot IMO, though I’m not sure using a figure from LinkedIn is the greatest way to measure that given it would require people to update their profile etc.

Surely as wholly owned subsidy of Nine there is possibly some duplication in roles across the business, where potential savings could be found if needed.

According to The Australian, managing director of Nine Publishing, Tory Maguire has informed her staff that she will be heading to Fiji for a holiday next week, after first flying to Canberra for the Midwinter Ball, which took place on Wednesday night.

The Australian has also reported that a document on Nine’s internal Slack channel outlining the more granular aspects of the job cuts was met with a smattering of Greek and Fijian flag emojis.

And? People aren’t allowed to go on holidays?

Of course they are. But to sack 200 staff then jet off to an exotic overseas holiday is not a great look. Even if said holidays may have been booked months ago. But once the news cycle moves on, this will be forgotten

Pedestrian has announced the “tough decision” to transition out of its current brand licences, resulting in a number of job losses.

Pedestrian CEO Matt Rowley announced that “as a result of this change, I will also be leaving Pedestrian Group and Nine following a transition period” in a note to staff seen by Mumbrella.

Pedestrian will focus on the wholly-owned brands “where we control the strategy, the content, the product, the sales and the outcome – the entire business”, and will “transition out of our current brand licences, which will reposition our business for the future”.

3 that are daily reading for me…

I visit Gizmodo and Lifehacker websites occasionally.

If Pedestrian Group relinquishes these brands, will their Australian websites be shut down as well? It will be hard to find someone who are willing to take over the brands at short notice.

I suppose have they confirmed that they aren’t just relaunching an unbranded version of the same content? Like a “NineGamer” or whatever to replace Kotaku etc.

Would be a huge shame to lose those sites, the Australian versions of Gizmodo/Lifehacker/Kotaku have all been much better than their US parents for a long time.

By the sound of it they’ve axed the whole thing

Do we know what’s going to happen with these? ^^

looking at the brands, Gizmodo has not posted anything new in 4 days (including nothing from the samsung reveal a few days ago) , lifehacker is still posting but not at the rate it was and Kotaku has not posted in 5 days.

i suspect the sites are all but abandoned now but they could have at least posted a farewell message

Are there not enough people in France to do it?

The Lifehacker articles might’ve been queued in advance. Apparently the staff for these sites were told they were let go, and walked out the door. So there was no chance for them to put a farewell message up.
