There are viewers there they just have to fight for them. Look at the ratings for The Chase and Tipping Point. It proves there are people at home at 5pm who are ready to settle in for the night.
Week 31
Nine News continued with its 10th straight win in the metro markets. Compared to recent weeks, the Olympic afternoon has not delivered an increased audience compared to Tipping Point while The Chase has maintained close to its usual audience and is up slightly to a 9-week high.
The one stand out is the collapse of the Seven Brisbane audience and the surge in Nine’s SEQ bulletin. The drastic change that produced a margin of 90,000 coincides with the sacking of Sharyn Ghidella and the subsequent change of Seven’s bulletin to a single anchor. It is Nine’s highest rating week in Brisbane since the pandemic days in August 2021. The viewing public can be quick to respond to change.

Surely Seven has to respond.
They’ll have to. That’s a shocking figure.
While not directly comparable, is 10 News Brisbane up?
No - 10 is down across the board up against Olympics.
I knew Max couldn’t complete against the experience of Andrew and Melissa.
What do they do though?
Bring back Sharyn? Doubt she’d return.
I don’t think installing Katrina or Samantha next to Max would be enough.
What to do? Dump Max to weekends and start again? New team?
Let’s face it - Seven News in Brisbane hasn’t been the same since they suddenly dumped Kay and Rod for Bill and Sharyn in January 2013.
They took a risk installing an ex-Ten newsreader who had just been sacked by his network, and it backfired in the long term.
None of these four are at the network anymore; in fact I think only Shane Webcke is left from the pre-2013 presenting team.
I wonder if they could lure Wendy Kingston back to newsreading?
She reads the 4pm news on Nine but yeah would be a great get for 7.
Week 32
It was another impressive win for Nine, though news numbers were down from the previous week, Nine by 28,000 and Sven by 31,000.
The comparisons to 2023 continue to show huge improvements for Nine now spreading to encompass all markets with Brisbane showing the best result while Perth and Adelaide were looking encouraging this week as well.
Now we wait to see if the Olympic investment for Nine will pay off in the longer term. Stay tuned.

Where’s Georgina Lewis these days?
Edit: Google says she produces weather at 9.
She was working as a producer on MAFS recently.
Oh dear
Ouch. A 76K margin between Nine and Seven News in Sydney, it hasn’t been that wide in that market for quite some time I feel, though with Nine having the Olympics it was always going to sweep the east coast this week.
I remember before The Chase Australia began on Seven, the deficit between them and Nine was close to or around 100K, as it also was before Ian Ross was hired by Seven in 2003.
Also good to see that the margin between Seven and Nine News in Perth is a reasonable 30K, though with the former still on top. Wasn’t very long ago the margin was often 100K in Seven’s favour.
Week 33
Nine continues to do comparatively better compared to last year in all markets. Brisbane and Perth are the current stand outs with 20% and 18% increases respectively. Melbourne is still in positive territory with an 18 point improvement over Seven. In Sydney and Adelaide Nine’s bulletin are down but Seven’s have fallen by over 20%.
Week 34
Nine Perth took a dive; Nine Melbourne continued to lead but otherwise not a big change from 2023.
Week 35
Most bulletins lost ground in week 35 compared to 2023. Nine in Brisbane were exceptions. Nine Brisbane , having won 20 survey weeks is just one week off ensuring it can’t be beaten in 2024.
Week 36
Seven News was down 23,000 from the previous week and Nine was down 15,000 in the metro market.
Table shows changes compared to similar time last year, with Sydney showing large drops in both bulletins.
It was at this stage last year that Nine in Sydney reached 21 weeks won while this year it is on 28 wins to 0 for Seven.
Week 37
