That logo? It really is… they should name the design company so people know who to avoid

In light of the weather happening in the Canterbury region, there has been some extra local radio today. More FM Chch local as it usually is, but also a live breakfast show this morning. The Breeze Chch live all day. Both back to networking this evening.

Dave Nicholas is live on The Hits Chch since this afternoon I think, but still on air this evening.

What a dull new logo

I presume there’s nothing local in Ashburton itself though, all piped from Christchurch or Timaru. Maybe Hoops still has the keys to the Hokonui studio?

Saw a picture of the Hinds River at the railway bridge… I haven’t seen it that high since 1986!

EDIT: Just for a bit of context, the bridges they say have washed away are designed to do that, they’re gravel crossings with little wooden bridges under the normal water channel. See pic below of Lynnford Crossing, I’ve circled the bridge.

Hoops is still on air isn’t he?
Looks like he was doing heaps on the floods for Hokonui
Understand there will be a local Canterbury mornings show this morning too (which is currently being networked after Chris Lynch’s departure)

I presume he’s still there.

NZME were pretty stringent on when they could break into network programming after the shakies in 2010/11, from what I heard they weren’t able to go local after 9am… but that might have been on ZB, I’m not sure.

True.

Lesley Murdoch hosted a Canterbury Mornings Special this morning.

Total ignorance here - why is/was this the case? Did local stations not handle coverage well?

No, they’re just restricted by urban-controlled networks. Historically they’ve been pretty good, I was really wondering how the former Port FM coverage was, since Mediaworks bought it… it seems NZME pretty much got a clear run in Ashburton. Well done to Hoops (gosh, it he must be into his 4th decade on air by now) - even Newshub used some of his footage.

Possible to see new More FM promos. Lana Searle said she just filmed 6 tv commercials on her Instagram story

Bit of a shame no cricket from England on NZ radio. I assume it was on Radio Sports any NZ tour of England?

Usually, yeah. Tests only by and large.

Gold AM has the WTC final.

Weird that Magic “the home of cricket” doesn’t have any cricket. Right?

Only ever got the home rights.

No doubt prohibitively expensive as a lot of overseas cricket rights are. I’d assume this is why Gold is only doing the WTC and not the whole tour.
