New Zealand Radio

Cool to see an investment in developing more programming, and a female duo given the gig.

ZM’s Chart has been renamed to ā€œZM Late Showā€, and Cam Mansel still remains as host. The program time has changed to 7pm-10pm.

The new show, ā€œZM’s Late Late Showā€ is hosted by Meg Wyatt and Ella Sheppard. It’ll run to 10pm-Midnight weeknights.

7pm seems too early to be calling it a Late Show, but ZM Chart wasn’t a great name either.

@nztv I have more information about Shelley Venning (from RNZ’s website), who comes to The Breeze (MediaWorks Radio) from RNZ.

Shelley Venning studied Broadcasting Journalism at Christchurch Polytechnic where she discovered although she liked writing news, she loved reading it. She hosted the all-night programme for RNZ back in the early '90s so when filling in for Vicki McKay or Lloyd Scott it feels like she’s getting back to her roots.

Shelley never went on a big OE but she certainly had an ā€˜NE’ working in Gisborne, Taumaranui, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Nelson. She loves working for RNZ National as she gets to broadcast in all these great places again.

Between her stints at RNZ, Shelley worked as a breakfast presenter at Classic Hits, got a BA in Psychology, a Graduate Diploma in English, ran four marathons and had two children. Fortunately Shelley loves food as much as reading the news because feeding two growing boys is pretty much a full-time job. When she’s not at work Shelley is likely trying out a new recipe, filling up the fruit bowl, slathering peanut butter on toast or taxiing the kids to soccer, rugby and cricket. Shelley loves coming to work as she gets to immerse herself in the news she doesn’t often have time to hear while at home.

As mentioned by Monique McKenzie of StopPress, Shelley will replace Kath Bier - who is leaving to become a Church leader and finishes up this week (7 May) - as co-host of The Breeze’s Wellington breakfast with Steve Joll, commencing next week (10 May).

Considering Phil and his wife moved to Chch for the role 2 years is not long eh

Si and Gary back together would be my guess…

Have to say Leah and Danny on Magic are starting to grow on me.

No, not very long at all.

I wonder if they would reach out to him. Good progression for Gary and probably a more recognizable pairing nationally than what Si & Phil were.

No, true but Phil essentially did come out of retirement to do the show and I’m guessing he agreed to two years and no more.

Looks like Thane Kirby is out of Hauraki… Show changes on their website this morning

Angelina Grey has just returned from maternity leave and is hosting afternoons on Hauraki (1-4pm). Greg Prebble has replaced Thane Kirby as its drive host (4-7pm)… for the moment.

James Daniels new ZB host with Simon Barnett

ā€œLast year I was asked to host nine to noon in Canterbury on Coast 105.7FMā€ said Daniels. ā€œIt’s been busy juggling those roles…"

James Daniels will continue to host Canterbury Mornings on Coast then go nationwide with Simon Barnett on Newstalk ZB Afternoons.

That’s a lot of juggling!

so i guess he wont be on council according to the press release

Yep.

I’m hearing rumours of a MediaWorks rebrand - new corporate logo. Relaunching start of June.

Strange timing since they have just installed this on the new building… sure it’s not a talkback rebrand?

Certain. Hearing it’s a simplified logo that incorporates the QMS brand, which will no longer exist in New Zealand from June as it will become MediaWorks OOH. I don’t know about the talkback rebrand - there could be one too?

Huge cost to rebrand a company, especially if it’s just the corporate side of the business. But it seems to be the thing that new CEOs like to do, to leave their own mark (Mark Weldon certainly did haha).

Not sure what the point was adding him to the station, from when I listened he almost came across as disinterested in being there. Just my opinion though.

Would have been good to have Angelina Grey return on drive with a music focused show. But good to see Tracey Donaldson remaining.
