might be pre-empting xmas this year
Why only âfor the duration of Marchâ I wonder?
I understand it to be a trial period with either side able to opt out at the end.
Ahh ok makes sense⌠So are you guessing NZME RSport + Sky together put in a bid for cricket commentary rights?
yesterday marked the end of an era with the last test to be broadcast on sky at least for domestic tests
would be nice to think someone would pick up broadcast rights
What would Sky get out of that though? At most theyâll get vision of a few guys sitting in a commentary box
I donât believe so, but thereâs potential for linking up for content around it.
Brodie and Fitzy finished up this morning. Not sure who will fill in until April, possibly the day host Dave Nicholas.

Bryan Waddle was on ABC Grandstand this afternoon previewing the Black Capsâ return to Australia for the three-match ODI series starting in Sydney on March 13. At the end of the interview he was asked by host Brett Sprigg about NZME not renewing the rights, and Waddle said it would be a sad day for cricket fans in NZ.
The situation in NZ is worse because only one radio network (NZME) is broadcasting cricket while in Australia, you can choose between the ABC, Nine Radio (which owns 2GB and 3AW) and Crocmedia.
Indeed.
Bryan Waddle will be joining the ABC team for the three ODIs too, which will be broadcast on NZME/Radio Sport.
NZME could look to purchase rights to overseas tours now, something (outside of Australia and England) they had gone away from in recent years.
I have the feeling , Nine Radio will not broadcast international cricket again. In some ways its nice to have 2ue as a dedicated music station so I am a bit torn.
i alreADY know one friend who is boycotting cricket due to the loss of radio rights, he is refusing to have streaming in just to have cricket think he may support lawn bowls
just had a comment on my facebook feed protesting the lack of variety on her station which happens to be Triple M in australia she made the comment she streams the sound fm here in nz and wishes triple M was like the sound streams our stations instead of her one interesting
Is Jason Gunn still popping up on More FM Drive?
I see on Jay-Jay/Flynny/Jase videos there is often a third person in the studio with them at the moment who is a comedian by the name of Sam Smith. He was one of the unsuccessful applicants for The Edge drive show last year. He doesnât seem to contribute much for the videoed segments except for laughing so not quite sure why he is there so far.
Havenât listened to More FM for a while but when I was didnât hear Jason at all and show now just called Jay Jay & Flynny on air (but online still Jay-Jay, Flynny & Jase).
Thatâs odd⌠Heâs a funny dude when he is allowed/decides to speak lol
As listeners are aware, the MediaWorks Radio frequencies seem to be updated ⌠except The Rock which uses The Edgeâs frequencies by mistake! In fact, those frequencies belong to The Edge, not The Rock.
maybe a cheeky marketing tool to get
people to listen to the edge by thinking its the Rock
When it comes to New Zealand radio, Iâve created a what-if scenario.
Whatâs going to happen if MediaWorks Radio secures the rights to broadcast live commentary of New Zealand Cricketâs domestic season (domestic and international matches played in New Zealand) from 2020/21 onwards?
And whatâs going to happen to Trackside Radio if it ceases transmission?
Trackside Radio, which is fully owned by the Racing Industry Transition Agency (RITA), will be replaced by Magic - the radio station that has two channels: Magic Music AND Magic Talk.
From my vantage point live sporting coverage and commentaries, including all New Zealand races (as heard on Trackside Radio) and domestic cricket matches, will be on Magic Musicâs AM frequencies and streamed live on the rova app.
Magic Talk will carry more news, more views, more shows (and personalities) and more open-line talkback, replacing the Magic Music programme due to listener demand. However, there will be brand new Magic Music frequencies - mainly on FM.
Below are the proposed frequencies for both Magic Music and Magic Talk. These come from my vantage point, although, in real life, most of which are currently used by Trackside Radio and other MediaWorks Radio brands, including Mai and The Edge.
