New Zealand Radio

Love the music on gold but they did slowly drop the announcers to 2 so guess this is a total change in direction i hope they dont close the brand altogether

Due to its frequencies it really only has a limited chance at success not to mention its mirroring a similar format rather than offering something more uniquely different. Probably best to cut out as much costs as possible.

Flava taking over the Wellington and Tauranga frequencies as well.

Just hope gold does stay in some capacity

Oh I didn’t know that, that’s a pity as I thought she was quite good - although I seem to recall Melanie Homer being the first presenter on Mix when it started.

And Flava taking over the frequencies? Doesn’t that rate even worse than Gold? Hell I seem to remember that Flava got removed from somewhere for rating so poorly?

Don’t worry Rod, Gold will still be around - on AM, at least.

Yeah Mel was, then she moved to Coast Drive for a short lived show with Jason Tikao and Tracy took over Mix.

Tracy got made redundant from The Sound if memory serves rather than The Rock.

No, has bigger numbers and share than Gold FM/Am at last survey and did so with only 5 markets.

You are right tracy was on the sound then went to hauraki then mix before it closed she certainly is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to music and artists fyi she also does voiceovers and sweeps for coast

Currently Flava broadcasts to Whangarei (106FM), Auckland (95.8FM), Rotorua (89.5FM) and Christchurch (93.3FM; limited coverage).

Tauranga (99FM) and Wellington (93.7FM; limited coverage), at present, play host to Gold which now adopts an all music format with no hosts. For instance, Rick Morin was made redundant while Andrew Dickens is making the move back to Newstalk ZB and Tracey Donaldson can be heard on other NZME Radio brands (including Hauraki) as a fill-in host in recent times.

The 927khz frequency used by Newstalk ZB in Manawatu (previously 2ZA) has ceased transmission (there was a loop message airing on that frequency reminding listeners to tune to 100.2 FM).

I just listened to 1XX today on Good Friday, and they’ve gone back to using their old news intro (that they used since 1991, although Hauraki was the first station to use it the year earlier) again (no voiceover on that news intro this time)!

The sound are doing a slim down version of the a to z countdown over easter usually this takes 2 weeks but cramming it into 4 days imagine how many tracks are being skipped over this time

Somehow missed this until now: Rhema re-launched the Star stations as “Sanctuary” on Feb 14 with a new “Worship music” format. This makes Rhema’s setup quite similar to that of K-Love in the US, which has its main Contemporary Christian network of “K-Love” stations and its secondary “Air1” stations, which have a worship format.

Was Country FM 99.8 in Auckland (1991-93) the only other commercial broadcast Country outlet in NZ history? I can’t find any others in my database.

Damm i enjoyed gold it was a bit different and had some great tunes sad to see it go

Country music has always been quite strong in Mooloo land. In 1986 Radio Waikato changed to a country music format and was renamed Country Gold - Waikato 954.

And I guess Gore being the belt buckle of country music in Aotearoa, it’s no surprise Hokonui went country for a bit (in 2012).
