Yeah, pre Covid if I recall rightly in breakfast, maybe for when Bernie was still at ZB?

Jesus Today FM has a loooong road ahead looking at ZB. I’m not convinced Tova was the right choice for Breakfast either. Maybe I’m not the target market but the gotcha stuff and provoking Winston into hanging up on her 3 times now just looks desperate.

The ratings for SENZ are a disaster

Coast is doing better than it has for a while and More down quite a lot across the board

First time in survey for SENZ…600 listeners in breakfast in Auckland. 4000 nationwide. Abysmal.

Quite an achievement, bottom of the ratings in so many markets across 2 different countries.

Like other members on here ask, where does SEN get the money from? Doesn’t seem to be through revenue.

A good question as they seem to have plenty of it. They have just paid $12 million for the purchase of Brisbane’s second-highest rating radio station (4KQ) and will replace it with SEN programming later this year.

I’ve heard they sell a lot on podcast hits and sponsored content. But that can’t be a lasting strategy,

Christchurch is pretty much the only market where The Sound does well. It’s remarkable.

More FM need to ramp back up the localism in Christchurch. It was what got them to the incredible figures of the 90s and 2000s, led off by Si and Phil/Gary but also with local shows through the day.

My question is… why does NZME persist with the current incarnation of Radio Hauraki? Are there any markets where this drivel rates well?

I do listen to a bit of Hauraki, but I do agree with your question. Its an underperformer for the effort they put into it and surprised they haven’t made more drastic changes (That breakfast show!). I note Flava which is only in three markets has 155,900 listeners and Hauraki which has a far greater reach has 177,500 listeners. Also Hauraki’s drive show has a bigger share and more listeners than Matt and Jeremy.

Exactly! 177,500 listeners across 17 markets is a pretty poor result. It feels like they’ve been flogging this dead horse for years with little or no gain.

On a slightly different note, I am surprised that NTZB hasn’t made more effort to get their remaining AM-only markets onto FM, now that they are facing competition from Today FM. They could sacrifice poor performing brands in some markets in favour of NTZB quite easily. For example, it’s hard to believe that a city the size of Dunedin doesn’t have NTZB on FM. Flava rates a measly 2.2% there so I can’t see the logic in not using that frequency for NTZB. Similarly, some of the Gold FM frequencies could be replaced with NTZB. Having said that, NTZB in Dunedin does pretty well to pull 13.4% with an AM-only frequency.

A lot of it is about market presence, even if the ratings are low.

Is it better to have Flava in the market to leverage the urban market that wants to target students in Dunedin - not necessarily strong ratings but can do promos and the like there. I do agree with your overall point though.

As for Hauraki, a weird one - Matt and Jeremy seem to be retained for their ACC presence perhaps more now than their Hauraki roles.

pleased to see the sound rating well in chch especially against established stations
not sure why not doing so good in other areas
do wish gold fm had better coverage as opposed to being best on I heart radio app as i listen to that as well

Similar to Radio Dunedin, strange to have More FM occupying two full power FM frequencies in the city while Radio Dunedin is on AM (with a couple of low power FM frequencies). But number 2 in share with 11.9 and surprisingly the demos actually aren’t too bad either.
