New Zealand Radio

The Review was also told that racist comments were made over several years by some radio announcers. When objections were raised by staff, they reported their complaints were not taken seriously. These employees were pleased to see that, in 2021, MediaWorks has taken such issues more seriously, with recent changes to announcer line ups.

The majority of the reported bullying related to some ten named MediaWorks employees.

Pretty damning this.

Very damning… sadly, I wouldn’t be surprised that this report reflects the majority of problems facing workplaces in NZ (and quite possibly the world).

If Dom Harvey is back at Mediaworks anytime soon I will be very very surprised.

I notice that he has in the last day turned off comments on all his recent posts on Instagram

They have a camp?

Any NZ herald journalist covering this story could probably find someone in their Auckland building within seconds who has experienced similar treatment within NZME. As the report points out, staff move between organisations and some of the allegations indicated some of these people were now at NZME.

Credit to Mediaworks for committing to the report, although it makes you wonder what changes will actually take place. Lets look at Dom Harvey’s sudden departure, it was pretty positive and gave him the chance to farewell the audience on his (rushed) terms. Unless there are a sudden list of job listings at Mediaworks then we can assume most of these people have kept their positions.

It was a station promotion where they held a school camp experience.

Explains why (as mentioned here above) the URL for the ‘Camp Edge’ case study has mysteriously disappeared off the Mediaworks website.

If it was indeed at Camp Edge, I doubt there were many people there aged 40+ except for one recently departed host.

However he did seem adamant that he would be returning to radio at some stage. He mentioned numerous times during his last few days that he was still contracted to MW, and would look at returning next year. Even thanked his bosses for being understanding

Probably said that as a cover-up. People would have well and truly forgotten about him in a year from now and he will be irrelevant.

sounds like an ingrained culture at mediaworks where things were definetly seen to be accepted behaviour where it should not have been
good chance to make sweeping changes

i feel sorry for the hard working mediaworks staff who turn up and stll deliver good product
they will be disappointed
in the actions of others

NZME has reinstated the local dayshow on The Hits Taranaki. Connor Kitto an ex Hokonui Southland Breakfast announcer has taken on this role.

Falling apart or making necessary change?

Yeah, I think falling apart is an exaggeration haha. Good opportunity for a new person to lead the culture change from the board level who hasn’t been part of the problem in the past.

Total guess but I reckon Sinead Boucher will be on the MW board next year with a Mediaworks-Stuff tie up. It’s the only way I can see them splitting completely from Discovery/ Newshub.

Matt Gibb has already been on More Fm Breakfast Club since last Monday …as “Button Pusher Matt”

They don’t seem to be pushing his introduction at all. Soft launch?

A quick listen through on the podcasts indicate he is being eased/trained into the roll as he will be running the panel something he does not yet know how to do. He got to speak for the first time on Wednesday. They have discussed his TV background.
