Network Ten post-CBS

I’m aware of that and the different companies controlled by National Amusements. My point is that a revamp along the lines of that undertaken at Channel 5 is more likely than turning Ten into CBS, which is highly unlikely.

I think the main Ten channel will continue to exist, perhaps co-branded, but One & 11 are far more likely to become CBS-something and -other (and should).

More likely TenStar than CBS-something

As I’ve said before and I’ll say again, Network Ten needs to ask itself this question: What elements of The Project and Studio 10 can we incorporate into our news service?

Yep, I agree. Both Seven and Nine have also had their periods of bad management in the past, but (as far as I’m aware anyway) there was never any talk about them contemplating a rename of the network even during their low points.

Could Network Ten as a company be performing better? Certainly. Is Network Ten as a company really comparable to Patties Foods or Ardent Leisure in the aftermath of their newsworthy scandals in recent years? Probably not.

Why? As if 11 would re-brand to CBS. CBS is a very old-skewing brand, and I don’t see Eleven’s target changing.

Same for your co-branding idea. It makes zero sense to have two brands.

Where is the dislike button. Tenstar??

Channel 5 outsources its news to ITN, and used Sky News for a while. We can probably be assured that won’t happen to Ten.

If it were 1995

I don’t think so. The yellow and blue 2D Ten is more simple and kind of fun and irreverent. The 3D one is quite “corporate” and serious and not very “Ten” imo.

That sounds crazy.

For all the talk about CBS being the “midas touch” and experts in news, it’s worth remembering that CBS News has languished at distant #3 for decades in both morning and evening news - both nationally, and in most major markets locally too.

(It’s rather shocking that CBS hasn’t been able to budge the Evening News ratings for 30 odd years.)

Ten was much more successful when it was the blue and yellow “button-pushing” simpler logo than the glossy white and blue that it is today.

I wonder how the digital/online/social media strategy of CBS compares to what Ten are doing at the moment? From my experience, Ten has possibly the weakest presence of the five main networks in this country.

Just because Ten was successful during the era of the blue & yellow logo doesn’t mean that the same branding strategy will work again today.

Yes. Don’t read into that the they were successful JUST because of the blue and yellow logo.

Yeah, lipstick on a pig will only do so much, but a bad branding strategy (e.g. the mappy shitstain) can push away a number of viewers.

Well then maybe you shouldn’t make it sound like that with your comment.

How about I write what I want and you write what you want?

Don’t go giving JBar that kind of power just willy nilly

In the name of a “Things Les Moonves should know about Network Ten (that he maybe doesn’t)” thread…

-Ten is your kind of “younger brother” network - a kind of fun place, practical joker, authentic.

-They’ve got a legacy in Aussie drama, local news hours, reality, pushing boundaries.

-It’s not in any way a serious brand, as CBS rather is.

-My hunch is that Ten should stay an under 54 or under 40s place. Oldies just don’t go there (except for AFL and cricket).

-With (*maybe) AFL rights, they could become a more mainline channel - for example, with six o’clock news and so on.

-They had the friggin #1 late news for 15 or so years and massive recognition for Sandra’s bulletin. Bring back straight late news (at 10 or 11 or whatever).

-Yes, Neighbours is sentimental but maybe let the old girl go.

-Breakfast - oh dear, where to start? Never mind, just call Rob McKnight.

But be prepared to invest lots more in drama that won’t be subsidised by UK viewers in order to meet your Australian local drama content quota.
