This new FA Package includes the rights to the next women’s World Cup. The FA bought the rights from FIFA to include in their next package.
Well that complicates matters - SBS will want the WC.
There is a real risk that the WC becomes the big ticket and the rest of the rights are second fiddle.
It was sold to Optus Sport with 7 only getting the opening round, Matildas and half the quarters plus the semis, third place match and final
That was the previous WC. The 2027 rights are owned by the FA who will include this in their next rights package.
We still don’t know where the 2027 WC will be. That could dictate how much money networks are willing to spend
Currently there are three bids
Belgium-Germany-Netherlands
Brazil
Mexico-United States
All 3 options are not great timeslots for aus viewers.
7pm kick off in Brazil = 9am AEDT
7pm in Europe = 5am AEDT
7pm in Mexico/USA = 11am/12pm/1pm/2pm AEDT
P+ could be chasing Serie A rights here in Australia broadcast by beIN Sports for the last few years. Their parent company in the US has the Serie A
Hosting from the ground tonight.
The blow out result not good for high ratings unfortunately for 10.
Better to host on ground rather than the studio
Ten used to air Serie A on its sports channel ONE many years ago. Having at least one big European League with the A-Leagues, Socceroos, Matildas, various AFC events will boost 10’s football coverage
As much as it may be one of the top leagues in Europe, I really don’t see the value in adding it in isolation. It isn’t going to do wonders for the A-League numbers, because the crossover of European fans, particularly Italian football fans, and A-League fans is not great. Plus, they dont have the same value proposition as BeIn currently does, pairing it with the Bundesliga, Ligue 1, and the EFL leagues, in addition to the other sports offerings they carry.
The bad time zone is another factor with matches played in the early hours of the morning
The game still managed an average audience of 973,000 with a reach +2.2 million.
Paramount+ will stream the Scottish Cup quarter finals on the weekend of 9-11 March. BeIN Sports used to air it until 2022-23.
Another competition together with the FA Cup
After the Mexico friendly in San Antonio, the Matildas are set to host China at Adelaide Oval on Friday night, May 31.
SA Premier Peter Malinausaks posted the news on his social media this evening, with an official announcement from Football Australia to come on Tuesday morning.
UPDATE 5/3: there will be a second match between the two teams at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on June 3. Kick off time for this match is yet to be confirmed.
It was announced at the start of March that the Socceroos will play an additional World Cup qualifying match on home soil, against Lebanon in Canberra on Tuesday night, March 26. This will be a Lebanon home game.
So another season of A-league rolls into March; with limited growth in Crowds, and TV ratings not moving.
When will Ten think outside the box and look at the AFL model; for all games that involve an Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane etc.
In those cities all games that involve these teams are on Free To Air. By placing the home team on Ten, it might just increase the viewer numbers.
Why; cause locals in all our cities love to support the local team. Showing a game involving Central Coast V Brisbane into the Adelaide Market is just a waste of time for a game that is needing growth.
Adelaide people want to see Adelaide etc. Soccer isn’t like AFL yet, in which there isn’t a large market for clubs that are not based in a home market. The number of Central Coast Fans in Adelaide would be minimal; therefore you’re not going to excel in viewing numbers.
Ie, a Carlton game of AFL has large supporter base numbers across this country. Etc
They (ten/paramount as a company) hold the exclusive TV, commentators are already doing the games, so why not change it up and see what happens? What do Ten/Paramount, FFA have to loss?
You’ll still have the lovers of round ball football purchasing Paramount +, you could also gain more people purchasing as they start to follow the league and want all the games etc. but you have to start building a base and not expect people to follow it cause it the “world game”
Yes for the Sydney, Melbourne market it would be harder to do, as they have more games etc but would still be able to rotate games between the teams in these cities.
I also think NBL could do the same.
From an advertiser point of view, you’ll actually get more bang for your buck, as they know which market is watching etc.
No major free to air commercial network will want the A-Leagues rights as it will clash with 7’s cricket coverage or 9’s summer of tennis.
Well that’s not true, as Ten currently have the rights. In my opinion they just haven’t used them correctly.
And why wouldn’t they just give it ago; all your “x” teams games are live each week on Ten.
Right now what they and the sporting body are doing isn’t working.
Was there a time that they ever did this? Split schedules in different states, before the Men’s games were moved to Bold?
