Means diddly squat if it doesnât pull in enough revenue and/or costs too much to make.
As alluded to by other posts further above, appears that Nine have either and/or been propping it up; have not had the gumption/ability to streamline further since it had no other regional operations to merge it with
NBN News is probably fortunate to have lasted as long as it has in its current 7 day a week form.
Probably because they realise that if they did anything to piss off Newcastle, theyâd cop it more so than others. That marquee at McDonald Jones Stadium? One massive target, because thereâs nothing more scary than a mob of angry Knights supporters (and one sad Sharks supporter
).
WIN will cop it when they make their changes. Theyâd do very well not to make massive changes. Maybe even make Newcastle base of some operations and do things their way.
They probably will, but wonât care. They have more balls than Nine even though they donât like dots ![]()
Question is, will they care? Iâm not convinced they will
WIN has traditionally been ruthless in making changes (no doubt in response to the cost to operate), its hard to believe that theyâd change their approach now unless Nine have reached some kind of agreement to maintain the status quo.
And sadly, I donât think it will make a lick of difference
Iâve suspected that the NBN operation has been struggling financially ever since they started repeatedly airing those promos: âHave you considered television advertising on the Central Coast? Compared to radio, TV could be more affordable than you think - and with pictures!â
Those ads seem to air in almost every commercial break lately.
We donât have evidence for any of this. Itâs just speculation
Given you can just watch the normal Nine on the Central Coast Iâm sure they struggle for ads in general - the tiny bit of local news isnât really worth it if youâre in Gosford just to commute into Sydney.
WIN could extend the coverage of NBN News further west to places like Dubbo, add more local windows to the broadcast to save money?
I donât see how thatâs going to save money when WIN already covers Dubbo (and Central West) news at 5.30pm with their Wollongong produced news bulletins
Eddy Meyer all over the shop with a live cross to the Sydney newsroom top story because someone either didnât load his script or his autocue failed. The package was cut short and went back to Tash who flailed for a few seconds.
I guess we can now rule out one thing re last weekâs sale news.
No chance of NBN News being rebranded as Nine News (or a hybrid Nine NBN News) in the near future.
I wonder if Nine will cut NBN News back to Monday to Friday after Easter, if the WIN sale is approved
Iâd say highly unlikely theyâll change anything now.
would be very Interesting to know what % of annual ad revenue for NBN spent supporting its newsroom / news output verses STW Perth and NWS Adelaide.
Ran a detailed chat on chat gpt and itâs saying all stations would spend about 12-25% of their ad revenue on running newsroom / news output.
NBN has Lower ad revenue but lower news costs too it estimates.
More likely to be either in July if change of ownership is passed or a fresh beginning next year, but yes thatâs highly speculative.
Nine would ooze every last cent it can make from the news while they own it so donât expect any drastic changes in the short term.
Words. But what laws exist to stop it going to Wollongong in scaled back taped format?
WellâŚhe is in government, maybe he might wanna raise a bill to protect existing news content from being reduced?
Just sayingâŚ
MPs from both sides have stood by for decades as governments of either colour allow regional broadcasters to cut, scaled back, and diminish local news/programs. Itâs hollow words and will affect nothing.
