I did a quick scan today at home in Leopold and 1341 is still broadcasting. I checked the Maprad.io site which has transmitters mapped out using ACMA data and it came up with the following transmitter sites owned by Geelong Broadcasters. The blue line is the link from the studios to the transmitter.
Oldies is roughly the AM Top 40 era: Buddy Holly to Disco. Classic Hits is for the later generations after the explosive growth of FM had fragmented the music listeners. Stations both there in the States and here which play 80s and later stuff can’t “play it all” in the way a 2SM, 3XY or 4IP would have. They can only pretend that they do.
Even as a 90s kid this one is instantly recognisable - there were still plenty of cars adorning this bumper sticker many years after the FM conversion.
Though reading through a few posts on Facebook, it appears this logo was used in the late 1980s once Hoyts took over the station. Those present at the time don’t appear to recall that period fondly - it apparently coincided with sweeping changes and job losses, maybe in the lead up to the FM (and format) conversion?
Either way, the old ‘West Coast’ logo from before that time might be a dose of nostalgia from a happier period for those who were involved. Probably more in keeping with the playlist too.
