Rete Italia Wollongong 89.3FM outlet has disappeared from both ACMA records & Rete’s own webpage. Anyone heard it on 89.3 recently?
This outlet doesn’t appear to have stuck around for long.
91.6 fluttered up nicely yesterday with Arabic/Quranic programming. So I definitely get it here when Sydney is a bit enhanced.
I have never heard 89.3 Rete Italia here.
If like in the past, he’d be using one of those very, very low powered USB powered FM Transmitter, where you at best could pick it up a street or two away.
I’m not sure whether the “2CR - Chinese Radio” is still going ? (That’s the better signal of the two, TXing from Centrepoint Tower giving it a great advantage. Unsure of antenna type or direction, but is fairly decent on the Central Coast and Newcastle (in the elevated areas) and at Port Stephens also. I wonder how long this aspirant community b/caster competition will run for ? I’ve been aware of it since late 2013 if my memory serves correct. What sydney’s radio world REALLY needs is a youth-orientated dance, house, electronic, trance (i.e electronic music in general) TO an EXTENT (no shit songs, lol) Association/not for profit group of enthusiasts to form a 3rd aspirant for that audience demographic. Sure we have 2SER and FBi Radio, with with latter catering for the more underground music genres (i.e psytrance, deep house, acid house, ambient electronic music). That’s just my opinion. Maybe co-locate on 2SER’s mast or c/point tower. Governor Phil’s Tower is also a good site. It’s relatively easy to access the 70cm UHF HAM radio repeater atop that building even here at The Entrance, providing you have an elevated base station vertical. And 10-30 watt transceiver. So it shows how good of a spot it is. Sydney needs something like New Wave FM (99.3, 1995-1998 TCBL, happy hardcore, rave music, etc) or WILD FM, as both stations had a massive audience back in the day. C’mon Sydneysiders! Most likely the last Sydney metro community frequency (although it covers more than just Sydney thanks to the TX location/s). Just my two cents worth.
I thought 91.6 and 107.9 are for Temporary Community / Narrowcast services such as Show Radio, 2CR etc.
I don’t understand why they did not use 89.5,
91.6 won’t work if 2CCC changes frequency to 91.7 which @RFBurns was putting to ACMA.
107.9 is a mess because of the TCL and Move fm interfering with each other.
The nearest service to Sydney on 89.5 is the low powered Goulburn National service, so this frequency would be better then 91.6 or 107.9.
89.5 would be the perfect frequency, with 90.9 being available to Lake Mac with a 1 kW to t N / NE / WSW / W / WNW radiation pattern, 1 kW circular from Fraser Park (i.e Snapper Point, Wybung Head, solar powered of course, it can be done, 88.9 2RVR at Mt Moonimba did it for their 1kW FM service. Even 100 watts from that site/area with a good antenna array, 20-30m above ground (monopole) (full power to array directed W/NW, then half to array to S/W. To spread coverage nicely. Just a thought, now, people, how about that ?
I’m assuming Geelong Broadcasters (Grants) still owns that 1341 HPON in Geelong? What do people think might happen to the frequency, potentially turned into a Kix Country outlet, although I think Kix Country is now ARN and already broadcasts in Geelong? Is there any other niche that could find a use for 1341 which reaches well into Melbourne?
Or Yet, Shut the Transmitter Sown and turn it to Farmland.
It is farmland…
Then, Shut the Farmland Down and turn it to a Transmitter.
I got a bit of a question for Sydney based members.
Is Show Radio broadcasting from the Easter Show on the air on 107.9? I just monitored that frequency here in Bowral and all I got was Lithgow.
On my radio connected to an rotatable external antenna currently aimed south at my home location near Campbelltown, I could get a bit of Show Radio underneath Move FM Lithgow.
Interesting, I’m getting an Arabic language station under Move FM Lithgow.
The ACMA radio register website is down ATM.
As it turned out, according to a tweet, Show Radio doesn’t come on 107.9 until tomorrow (Sunday).
Yeah I was getting Arabic Radio from the Pennant Hills area.
Show Radio on the air now. Getting a weak signal in Bowral on the Sony Portable
Notice that 87.6 in Bendigo called ARK FM ran locally (actually transmitting from the Northern Suburb of Eaglehawk) covered most of Bendigo, around 25Km radius. It has recently diapered. It ran a mix of older gospel music and american shows like back to the bible etc. According to ACMA all 87.6 to 88.0 in Bendigo are licenced to the 7th Day Adventist but as said, 87.6 was local called ARK FM which has disappeared and 88.0 is Faith FM. Audio a little distorted but covering well over 15 Kms radius. Not sure where there TX site is.
Further, there has never been anything operating on 87.8 in Bendigo, but once again, licenced to 7th Day adventist. I’m sure there is a hoarding rule with ACMA. There is also a 88.0 listed on a main TX Site on Mt. Herbert. This could hardly be for LPON use as even 1 watt would cover an extremely large area due to it’s location, but there is no TX located on that site, only KLFM Bendigo’s service at 1.5 Kw.

. It has recently diapered.
Quite a poetic way of putting it. I’d simply say it shit itself.

ACMA finds Myall Coast radio station breached licence conditions
New South Wales-based radio station Myall Coast Radio Incorporated has been found to have breached a licence condition following an investigation by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).
Myall Coast Radio Incorporated held a licence to provide an open narrowcasting service. These licenses are issued for the purpose of niche broadcasting and by law must be limited in some way, such as being targeted to special interest groups, providing programs of limited appeal or being provided for a limited period of time or for a special event.
An ACMA investigation found that Myall Coast Radio FM was broadcasting a mix of content, including live-hosted and automated music programs, and news and weather bulletins that would likely appeal to a general audience in the broadcast area.
ACMA Chair Nerida O’Loughlin said radio broadcasters must always take the conditions of their licence into account when planning programming.
“Our investigation found Myall Coast Radio FM was not targeting a limited audience as required under its licence,” Ms O’Loughlin said.
“Myall Coast Radio FM has acknowledged its error and ceased its narrowcasting service. It is now operating as an internet radio station instead.”
Myall Coast Radio FM was found to have breached a licence condition under the Radiocommunications Act 1992.
