I think Rete are/were ‘Gumnut Nominees’; they may have changed the shell company name?
Yeah they were Gumnut Nominees, they could’ve changed the company name & maybe ACMA haven’t updated/converted all the licences to the new one yet, but then why would’ve Rete Italia sold off their 801kHz site/licence to SEN in Gosford, & now purchase & new licence & have to build a new TX site from scratch, (as this site doesn’t exist as a trasnmissions site currently), makes no sense, but then I’ve seen & heard of some things in broadcast that make you scratch your head sometimes.
Edit: I’ve just checked up & Gumnut Nominees & L&T Nominees (who own this new licence) are at the same PO Box 250 Brunswick West.
The plot thickens.
Just saw this myself and was about to comment - how peculiar.
Any opportunity to co-site with 801?
Not when the new licence is at West Gosford & the 801 site is at Chittaway Point at the North end of the Central Coast. Too far apart in physical distance for ACMA to allow under nominal TX site location.
No more difficult or expensive than diplexing any AM stations together, if anything, the closer they are, the easier it is, as the antenna (physical & electrical) length to transmitted frequencies (wavelength) is closer, the further apart, you have to start adding in loading coils, capacitive top loads or sectionalised masts feeding sections separately to help match the wavelengths, otherwise one or the other stations will be under powered (reduced coverage), due to the angle of the wavelength not being ideal & pushing more power into the sky wave instead of the ground wave, possibly putting the mush zone closer in to the transmission site than where you would like it, as signal fade also.
2CH & 2UW Sydney used to be diplexed on the same mast, going back to the late 1970’s early 80’s (I think), at 1170kHz & 1107kHz respectively, only 63kHz apart.
I highly doubt it’ll interfere with the DRM test on 747 at Wangaratta, it’s only going to be about 500W by night & 1kW by day.
ABC News Radio Hobart at 3.5kW on 747 would be more likely to interfere by day or possibly even ABC local radio Toowoomba at 10kW on 747 by night? It’d be designed not to interfere with ABC local radio Taree on the adjacent frequency of 756 too, more so than Radio National Wangaratta on 756.
It might fit in this topic but I can confirm that the Temporary Broadcaster on 91.6 in Sydney is back on the air broadcasting in Arabic. Got a signal of it from here in Bowral, and I had the radio tuned to 91.5 due to 91.6 being next to 2ST Nowra
A record 855k for 104.3 FM Hobart (10kw Mt Wellington).
Sold to Vision for I believe the highest price of any narrowcast license in the country.
Damn, you would have done a way better job using it. Maybe you can buy their old 88.0s.
Can we presume SEN was also part of the bidding? Maybe they’re “Bidder 7”?
It’s also likely Vision won’t be able to afford it. They’re still paying/paid off their new studios at Springwood in SE QLD.
Who was the underbidder to push them to $855 000?
Maybe SEN?
Yeah either SEN or Radio TAB I’d presume. Most likely SEN.
Vision will have to rely on public donations for their frequency. Concidering there’s already a Christian community radio station in the market I wonder if both can thrive and survive?
vision was running an on air and email campaign calling for donations to go towards purchasing the frequency.
the costs for vision would be minimal to run it anyway - cost of the transmitter and a sat dish (vision is feeds almost all its sites off optus D2) - they already run the programming for the rest of the network anyway
Shame that it’s not a bit more state based like the RPH or racing services.
Even just say a 3hr opt out in mornings for a Hobart program etc would be nice.
OT but Radio TAB’s weekday breakfast show (produced in Brisbane) airs across Brisbane, Darwin, Hobart and Adelaide (unsure if SENs Breakfast show is still overpatched in Adelaide) plus regional QLD, NT, SA and TAS. On Sundays it airs the Big Sports Breakfast show originating from Sky Sports Radio Sydney.
I’m not sure if Vision breakouts its advertising for local markets so it’ll be interesting if they can make a dime on this new service or it’s a case of what’s the point right?
I wouldn’t say minimal… Vision will be looking at upwards of $80,000 per year if they want to be on the combined BAI antenna stack on top of Mt Wellington… That’s before the power costs to run a 2.5kw ish transmitter for 10KW erp. I wouldn’t imagine the cost for Vision to physically connect to the combiner in the first place would be any less than $100,000 either.
Do we know how cashed up Vision actually is?
It understand they’re tax exempt but rely heavily on public donations (as opposed to radio commercials) and their news service doesn’t operate on weekends (AIR News has filled in some stations like Family 96.5 Brisbane with their weekend bulletins).
I imagine moving studios to a much flasher building isn’t cheap either, although Springwood is cheaper than Brisbane CBD.
Wow, blast from the past! Haven’t played that in years (great soundtrack too).
Yeah, the GTA: Vice City soundtrack is actually what got me into 80s music. I was 16 when it was released and haven’t looked back.
I do think Vision should invest in some local content for the Hobart licence, but this may need more contributions to the ‘salvation statue’…
