Thanks for that.
7 stations plus Vision… that’s pretty good for a tourist resort with a small population where listening to the radio isn’t high on the priority list for a lot of people.

Run by 8HA/Sun969 Alice Springs presumably, has a HPON licence on 98.7 there
Yes. That would be correct. 98.7 Tourist Gold FM from the Alice.
I wonder if and how much over the authorised power limits the Sydney area LPONs on 87.6/87.8/88.0/88.7 MHz are running at. I’m about 50 km from Picton and the 1W Vintage FM LPON from there overpowers the 200-watt 2MWM on the same frequency (88.7 MHz) even though I’m closer to the 2MWM transmitter. Likewise, I can get Air FM from Western Sydney on 88.0 MHz despite also being probably around 50+ km away.
For the members with more technical knowledge, I assume a 1-watt station wouldn’t have a 50-kilometre reach?
Correct, LPONs are licensed for one watt at 10m elevation. 2km radius at the mono threshold of 48dbm…
Is Vintage FM programming now being carried on 87.8 FM in Newcastle, NSW in place of Classic Hits FM?
Seams like it…
Quite possibly?
The system is capable of it. Unfortunately, Craig Allen, the owner of Classic Hits FM and Ozy Radio recently passed away.
Yes… sadly.
Craig had close links with Wilmo of Vintage FM.
Not sure of what will come of Craig’s radio licences & stations.
Perhaps in the case (at least with Newcastle lic.) some kind of arrangement
was made with Craig’s family?
I had a bit of a listen on the weekend, couldn’t really tell as I didn’t hear any station IDs, the music didn’t sound much different though.
Had another listen today, this time caught a “Classic Hits FM” ID with the position “The Music You Know And Love”… seemed all automated programming.
Interesting. I wonder if it was a once off ‘Vintage FM’ test, like I’ve heard once in Sydney once this year or if there’s another Vintage FM outlet up there in Newcastle region?
I didn’t see any Newcastle out listed on the Vintage website at the time.
Thanks for checking.
Yes Classic Hits, of the outlets I’ve heard, are automated.
Not sure about Newcastle proper, but the Port Stephens area only had Raw FM and Bay FM at the top of the dial when I was there.
Can’t receive Vintage FM or Air FM on terrestrial radio in this location of Sydney.
There’s no 3ABN in Sydney but there’s Hope 103.2, Why Can’t 3ABN buy 50% of 2CH from EON Broadcasting and Broadcast 12 Hours a Day Except Sundays where the NSW Council of Churches have Control???
Because EON are not selling?
Because 3ABN has no interest in buying?
Exactly.
Although I’d really like to know what’s with this user really wanting 2CH to increase the level of religious content, if not become a full-on religious station. I’ve noticed it across several posts now.
I can’t see the SDA owned 3ABN doing a deal with the NSW Council of Churches who have a say in the religion content on 2CH.
There is an Islamic station currently broadcasting from Wentworth Gardens at Parramatta on 107.9 FM. The broadcast started on Thursday and continues until 17 August, according to the ACMA database. They also appear to have a permanent VHF licence.

Oddly enough they are not currently using their NAS licence on 153.525MHz. I did log them there last year. Maybe saving energy costs atm?
If I narrow the bandwidth of 107.9 down to 30kHz I can hear their speech, else Move FM dominates on 107.9 FM.
Appears that AM 1620 is active again in Brisbane. Usual Italian fare. Weak signal for inner city suburbs.
It could be on air from the site of the database listing or nearby, quite east of Brisbane, on the boundary with Redland City Council in an area once named Capalaba West.
