I don’t know about “over”. If a group of 4-5 young men get a band together, have catchy tunes, can half sing and are good looking, i think they’ll always be a success.

Boy bands have been around since the 80s, you could probably put Culture Club, Duran Duran and Wham! in that category too.

You could argue that boy bands have been around since the 50s, even if they weren’t called boy bands in earlier decades, they essentially were. Their popularity goes around in cycles.

The Drifters formed in 1953.

Groups like The Beach Boys and The Beatles were boy bands when they started, even if they developed later to be considered more than that.

“Without Me” by Eminem has re-entered the ARIA Top 50, at #49. IIRC, it was the top-charting song of 2002.

This of course comes on the back of “Houdini” retaining top spot for the second week in a row.

Shifty Shellshock, the lead singer of Crazy Town whose 2001 smash hit “Butterfly” peaked at number four on the ARIA Charts, has died at the age of 49.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the song gets played on radio again, or re-enters the charts, in light of the news.

In the past, songs by Michael Jackson and Linkin Park (whose lead singer Chester Bennington died in 2017) have charted after such circumstances.

It happens a lot, similar to when they tour or a song gets used on a TV show.

Alien Ant Farm will be touring Australia for the first time in over two decades, but will only be playing at small venues (the Metro in Sydney and Princess Theatre in Brisbane being examples).

They are of course best known for their cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal”, which topped the ARIA Singles Chart in late 2001.
